2,314 Prime Sheep comprising 1,813 Hoggs, 501 Cast Ewes & Rams

LAMBS
A smaller show today with a little bit of wariness in some vendors minds following cheaper prices later last week. However the mechanics of supply & demand probably contrived today to create a better trade than expected with numbers generally 30% tighter around the country and trade looking fairly reasonable. Handy and lightweight sheep sold well, and would end up short of requirements. Smart lambs were a straight trade without seeing the high prices of recent weeks, butchers type heavies were a good trade, whilst commercial heavies would be the commodity that was dearer than we expected. Mules and nice Horned Wethers would also be a similar trade on the week and exceeding our anticipated trade.
OVER 52kg – Best heavies to £156 or 296p for a pair of 53kg’s from EP&JM Hutchinson, Faceby followed by R Emmott Silsden at £154 then KG&JL Huck of Bordley at £151 and £150. The weight range included several pens of heavy Mule Wethers and averaged 248p or £132.50 and so were dearer than expected.
46kg to 52kg – EP&JM Hutchinson, Faceby leading the range again at £157 £151 and £150. M&K Farrar of Tadcaster had a great run of lambs, including Continentals at £156, regular local vendors CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield made £155, whilst a lamb sold for local charity made £155. The better lambs in the weight range were over 300p, to 341p from EP&JM Hutchinson, Faceby.
36kg to 45kg – Making a clean sweep of top prices were EP&JM Hutchinson, Faceby at £156 for a pair of 43kg at 363p. CD&RF Kitching made £155 or 344p, whilst A&K Kiernan sold at £150 or 333p. Fox Farms of Clitheroe had some smart lambs forward for sale the best price for this run was 342p for 38kg.
Handyweights of all breeds 35kg to 42kg as expected were the best weights to sell this week and short of requirements.

A Run of Cheviot Wether Lambs from A&K Kiernan St Michaels sold well on the day, topping at £141 with others at £140 £135 £134.50 & £130, or 287p 281p 269p and 265p

Ewes a nice trade with weight selling well again. Heavy ewes a flyer plenty £130-£155 with good quality ewes £150-£165 and nice well-bred heavy Suffolks and Pure Texels £160-£180. Top price of £190.50 from B Spensley, Skipton for Texels. A pen of Pure Suffolk ewes from G&MA Lawn, Skipton sold to £179.50. Mediums white faced ewes £110-£122 and small full meat ewes £90-£108. Lean mediums £100-£115 and plain white-faced crossed ewes £70-£85.
Heavy mules sold to £127.50 for 8 ewes from 4 different vendors. Heavies generally £115-£125. Mediums £95-£108 and smalls £75-£88.
