4,234 Prime Sheep comprising 3,364 Prime Lambs & 870 Cast Ewes & Rams
Lambs
Thankyou to everyone who answered the call for sheep today with a total entry of 4,324 head, and all those forward for sale witnessed a trade that continues to rise ending with a superb overall lamb average of 278p/kg (SQQ 283.3p) or £122.80 per head.
Best heavies and smart lambs today grossing in the £170’s and £160’s. CM&EM Gratton of Warsill had top gross at £175, followed by Ellis Bros, Addingham Moorside at £172. 10 Pens made in the £160’s, CD&RF Kitching Threshfield made £169, K Marshall Menwith Hill £168, GT Booth Lothersdale £167 £160, RH&MR Ireland Whalley £165 £161.50, GW Houseman Padside £163, T Shepherdson Marsden £160, J Shuttleworth Rylstone £160, T Boothman Linton £160. The strength of the trade today was shown by 121 further pens made in the £150’s and £140’s.
The smart goods were a sharp trade, but not taking the same lift per kilo on the week as the commercial types of lamb. CD&RF Kitching led the kilo prices at 393p, Ellis Bros 382p and 359p, K Marshall 381p, B Lund Walshaw 362p 354p , RH&MR Ireland 358p, T Shepherdson 353p, A Jenkinson Langbar 352p. A further 123 pens made from 300p to 348p, but not all these would be Beltex types, with more heavier lambs able to achieve 300p, and a nice commercial handy and lightweight lamb able to make 285p to 310p.
Heavy lambs saw the 46kg to 52kg bracket average £131.65 for over 1000 head in this range, this being £12 per head up on the week, and the over 52kg range level at an amazing £147.20, +£13 on the week.

A very special mention today in the report must be made about a lamb that was presented for sale by Ken and Hazel Gamble of Easingwold and purchased for £500 by Mr Andrew Atkinson, with the proceeds being donated to The Manorlands Hospice in memory of Mr Royston Baxter. Thank you to everyone concerned.
