STORE CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 16TH MARCH 2022

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle. Forward: 518 head of cattle, Comprising: 506 Feeding Cattle (170 Young Bulls, 44 Beef Feeding Cows/Bulls, 292 Bullocks & Heifers) & 12 Breeding Cattle.

FEEDING BULLS – trade was predictably cautious with feed prices volatile. Middleweight bulls were easier with a lot more £1150 to £1300 compared to the previous fortnight. Heavy bulls and the very best still able to make £1400 to £1550 but small bulls held up very well with very few good continentals below £950, a sale average of £1115 against £1114 a fortnight ago indicates a very good show of smart cattle causing the reduction in values due to feed and world events to be less marked on paper. The Spring Feeding bull Show was held today with a full list of result below. Our thanks to vendors, buyers, sponsors, and our judge for the morning Mr Stephen Kemp.

FEEDING COWS – Some fire in the trade today for all classes, with a minimum price of £800 up to a maximum of £1960 and an overall average for 42 head of £1229.03 !!
The pure bred types of heavier making cows sold to £1960 for a Blue from SD Gill of Dacre, other prices inc G&R Bulmer Wakefield with a Charollais at £1680, F Reeday & Son Hetton at £1510 for a Limousin, A&TA Blades of Hawes made £1480 and £1440 with Limousin’s, J&JA Preston of Stainforth £1450 with an Aberdeen Angus. DA&SA Fort of Glusburn made £1490 of a Limousin cross, JH&J Ryder of Maisongill Ingleton sold Herefords to £1480, followed by Ashley Mills of Sheffield at £1450 for a Limousin x.
Medium types of cows were the trade of the day with 20 of the 42 head making £1100 to £1380, with leaner lighter cows on the day £800 to £1000.
Stock Bulls sold to £1820 for a 9 year old British Blue and to £1360 for a 10 year old Limousin.
On this trade vendors should be looking to get cattle entered for the next sale. Thankyou.
