An increased show of lambs were a much better trade on the week, but generally quality was slightly better on the week as well. Lambs around 40kg were best to sell, selling wither side of £2 per kilo depending on quality. The smart sorts were 220p up to 244p from Mark Townley of Claughton, whilst heavy lambs if smart and well finished were keenly sought.

Calves continue on the strong trade with a good show being well supported from start to finish. Right through well reared calves making a good trade with 28 Black and White calves averaging £93.11 and 11 of 28 well over £100 and topping at £200 for a fine calf from Richard Spence of Low Jackfield.
Native calves for the quality of the show were very strong with an overall average of £218.6 and Richard Sutcliffe of Queensbury topping at £275 for a 1mth old calf.
Again the most in demand calves were the British Blue’s with some strong consignments from the Ripon area and Gargrave making some good prices with not the strongest show we’ve seen but straight calves were easily making into the £400’s topping at £490 and £480 with some fine examples from Fred Houseman and Shaun Sowray.

Despite a number of entries withdrawing due to favourable weather conditions trade was strong with an average show of heifers selling well. Duncan and Gary Robinson of Eldroth were judged to be 1st in the show and went on to cement their top placing with the top price a respectable £1660 for a heifer giving 31kg and joining father and son team Fred and Mike Longster. Other vendors were please with their trade with Mark Stapleton selling his 3 honest heifers to a nice average.
Stronger Show expected next fortnight with a 12 Consigned already including 8 Brown Swiss Heifers.
