Towler Beltex-cross secure CCM Skipton prime lambs title James Towler, of Steelands Farm Grindleton, was champion at Skipton Auction Mart’s March prime lambs show and sale with a pen of five home-bred 43kg Beltex-cross purchased for the day’s leading per head price of £118, or 274p/kg, by regular buyer Vivers Scotlamb in Annan. Smiths step up with second CCM Skipton prime cattle championship North Craven father and son hill farmers, Francis and Andrew Smith, clinched their second prime cattle championship of the year at Skipton Auction Mart’s March show. (Mon, March 4) After picking up their first-ever Skipton title win at this year’s opening show in January, the Smiths, of Lodge Farm, Masongill, above Ingleton, were on the mark again with an all-black 510kg Limousin-cross heifer bought in as a suckler and further improved on the farm, which sold for joint top per kilo price of 261.5p/kg, or £1,333, to weekly buyer Keelham Farm Shop.

Halls of fame at CCM Skipton monthly prime lambs show ‘Halls of fame’ was a phrase that readily sprang to mind when two different local farming families of the same name took principal honours in the flagship Continental show class at Skipton Auction Mart’s February prime lambs show. (Mon, Feb 4) Michael Hall, of Scosthrop Farm, in the Malhamdale village of the same name, won the supreme championship with his first prize pen of five Beltex-cross lambs, all by home-bred tups, which went on to sell for the day’s joint top price per head price of £125, or 277.8p/kg. He was also responsible for the same way bred third prize pen. Both weighed in at 45kg, with Mr Hall adding a third pen at £124.

Critchleys recapture championship form at CCM Skipton prime cattle showcase The Red Rose Critchley beef farming family picked up its first prime cattle championship of the year at the second monthly show at Skipton Auction Mart. (Mon, Feb 4) The multiple past champions, who now bring cattle to the North Yorkshire mart virtually on a weekly basis, the majority bought in and further fattened at their Mercer Farm in Hutton, near Preston, clinched another title with the first prize 590kg Limousin-cross heifer, sold for £1,460, or 247.5p/kg, to Darley’s Nick Dalby, buying on behalf of principal weekly buyer Keelham Farm Shop, who claimed seven entries in total, five for its Skipton shop and a brace for Thornton.
