Rearing Calves to £450 (70) B&W av £152.5 Cont av £333.32 Native av £220.6 A sublime trade in the calf ring once more with black and whites fiercely bid over to an average of £152.50 and topping at a majestic £280 for a superb bull calf only 1 month old from Michael Heron of Bramhope, Paul and Janet Bolland received £240 for their best B&W bull and Anthony Bolland receiving £225 and £205 for two of his consignment. Black and White Calves averaged 29 days old.




Continentals were again good to sell with our genuine 4-6 week old calves as dear as ever with James Gooch, Cononley taking the top price with £450 for a 40 day old British Blue bull with Martyn Jennings, Cowling not far behind at £440.  Pickersgills of Guiseley topped the Limousin’s at £420 for a cracking calf out of a Friesian cow. Heifers saw a healthier trade topping at £400 for a sweet thing from John Marshall, Monk Ing and averaging £325 for a mixed bag.

 

Natives tasted the good going also with heifers actually out selling the bulls today with some added interest taking the heifer average to £234.48 and Bulls to £216 however Michael Heron took the top trump with a mighty Angus bull reaching £335.

Craven Dairy Auction (34 head)

With more signs of the Dairy Depression ending the trade today saw a fervent trade which was ever the more obvious when the Champion from Samantha Sugden walked in. The Bossman Daughter bred By Samantha which had calved 20 days and giving 30kg went on to sell for £2200 to Edward Fort of Silsden Moor.

 

Reserve Champion from Sally Wellock of Oakworth met an equally ferocious trade with her 9 day calved 30kg heifer and a Shottle daughter sold for £1900 to regular supporter John Howard of Heslaker. Tony Swires of Stainburn, Otley saw his heifers well bid and reach £1750 for his prize winner and £1600.  Other Noted Prices: J Wellock £1700, RW&M Walker £1650, M Baul & Partners £1600.
