Forward: 26 Prime cattle comprising 15 Clean Cattle (under 30 mos), 2 Clean Cattle (over 30 mos) & 9 Cast Cattle. 2,440 Prime Sheep comprising 2129 Spring Lamb & Hoggs, 311 Cast Ewes & Rams. 30 Rearing Calves.






Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)

Leading purchaser was Keelham Farm Shop from Skipton securing 5 purchases including the leading priced p/kg heifer at 249.5p from Mesrs RT&J Critchley&Sons from Hutton whose Limousin heifer weighed 535kg and grossed up to £1334. Top gross was a 575kg Limousin cross heifer from Mesrs CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield  which sold to Stanforths Butchers of Skipton for £1349 or 232.5p.

Another high quality show with 10 of todays entry making 230p or over.

2,440 Prime Sheep comprising 2129 Spring Lamb & Hoggs, 311 Cast Ewes & Rams

Lamb numbers taking a seasonal increase today, and another good trade on the day too with an overall selling average of 191p. All classes keenly bid for with heavy lambs maintaining prices from 190p to 210p, whilst the handyweight lambs were a stand on trade from last week with several firms competing hard for the nicely finished 37kg to 39kg types.
Top prices per head were 53kg Texels at £114 per head from John Wood Trawden purchased by Nick Dalby on behalf of Kendalls Farm Butchers. Swaledale Foods purchased 57kg continentals from TH Mellin Black Lane Ends also at £114, whilst Kendalls also purchased lambs at £113 from M&R Smith of Winterburn. TE Walker Barden sold 55kg at £111 to J&E Medcalf Ltd Halifax, and Fox Farms Clitheroe had a great run of lambs topping at £109 per head for 46kg selling to Vivers Scotlamb Annan. Hartshead Meat Co also buying good butchers lambs with 44kg at £108 from AF Harker Long Preston and also £108 for 47kg again from M&R Smith.
Per kilo Vivers Scotlamb purchased the principle pens at 276p (38kg) from E&M Townley Clapham, 252p from E Pennock & Son Beamsley, 242p Fox Farms, and 240p P Crabtree & Son Otley. Others at 245p from AF Harker Long Preston to Hartshead Meat Co.
A larger show of cast sheep levelled at £73 across for all breeds with a very competitive trade seen, best Continental Ewes up to £120 purchased by Lancashire Direct Halal Meats with other good sorts into three figures, nice heavy ewes in the 90’s. Best Mule Ewes touching £80 but mid 70’s onwards, and best Horned ewes in the 60’s, but second quality lean meated ewes late 50’s to £60.

Rearing Calves to £360x2 (30)

Just 30 calves through the door this morning with the Calf show looming next week. Best calves could still make a handy price with some 4 week old Blue bulls from Joss Lancaster of Horton in Craven selling to £360 twice. A couple of sweet Angus heifers from Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey that reached £185 & £165. Continental heifers saw a straight trade for the young show of calves on offer with the best being a solid calf from PJ&JE Bolland.
