STORE & BREEDING CATTLE - WEDNESDAY 3RD JULY 2019

Fortnightly Sale of Young Feeding Bulls, Store Bullocks & Heifers, Breeding Cattle Forward: 313 head of cattle Comprising: 244 Feeding Cattle (92 Young Bulls, 35 Beef Feeding Cows, 107 Bullocks & Heifers) & 69 Breeding Cattle.

A late season show of feeding bulls and a good attendance of regular bull buyers currently selling prime bulls on a difficult market. Under the circumstances a similar trade was unexpected and a satisfying result. Strong bulls still £1000 and upward whilst Aberdeen Angus cross bulls are the order of the day.

A nice entry of beef bred feeding cows and an increased attendance of buyers for grazing kept the straight leaner and medium cows good to sell and many more could be sold with a regular ringside of 12-15 buyers. Forward cows for short term keep were a shade better to sell with buyer keen to stock up pens, John Mellin Long Preston topping the sale with a nice Limousin at £1200, James Middleton Arncliffe £1170 and £1160 was achieved on two occasions, first by P Coates Farmers Barrowford and the M&S Gledhill York, the whole entry levelling at £815 a piece. Please pre enter cows for the catalogue, speak to Ted Ogden for more details.

A reduced number of cattle meant for a stronger trade in the store ring today with some very strong cattle still able to break into the £1200 - £1250 with P&E Fox of Clitheroe topping the day with a belting bullock at £1260. Native cattle sold away well despite the lack of age with plenty £900 - £1050 with a run of young Herefords a super trade from Stampers of Chipping.

On the whole trade much more positive despite poor finished prices continuing nationally, better quality was the main reason for the increase in price. Farm Assured cattle definitely taking home a premium today along with native cattle which are sire identified.
