A very good pre-Christmas Primestock show entry lapped up by a willing audience looking for the best of beef to mature for Christmas.
Top call was £1467 for a 615kg Limousin cross heifer from Mesrs CD&RF Kitching of Threshfield which was bought by Jeff Burrow followed by another Kitching heifer, a Limousin weighing 610kg which dropped to Robertshaws Farm Shop of Thornton for £1430 or 234.5p/kg. Robertshaws also bought the leading gross priced steer from F&B Smith of Westhouse for £1413 or 241.5p/kg, and another Limousin cross, which was also the top priced p/kg steer.
Keelham Farm Shop of Skipton secured the leading priced p/kg animal on the day a 540kg Limousin cross heifer from F&B Smith for 254.5p/kg or £1374.

Trade up to another level today with the overall average for all weights, grades and breeds, inc both Farm Assured and none Farm Assured was up 12p/kg on the week at 199.4p overall, with an SQQ average of 204.9p. Another varied show of sheep, with several excellent runs of smart lambs, but still including a good proportion of Hill bred lambs, Mules Swales and Continentals bred from hill ewes.
The Beltex saw S&P Scrivin of Elslack take top price per kilo with 7 lambs weighing 39kg at £127 or 325.6p/kg, purchased by P Watson. These were the joint top price per head with W&J Parkinson, Garstang selling 41kg at £127 (309.8p/kg) to Vivers Scotlamb. Messrs Scrivin sold a further pen at 294.4p (36kg £106). 6 pens today at £3 plis, JS Eddleston, Great Harwood topped his nice run with 10 at 315p (40kg £126), RF Morphet, Halton, Lancaster was up to 305.1p (39kg £119), WC Logan, Malham Moor 305p (40kg £122) and 300p (39kg £117) from A Jenkinson, Langbar. A further 47 lots of lambs selling from 241p to 294.4p. Other chief prices per head included J&M Blakey from Bolton by Bowland at £120 each for 55kg Texels, W&KJ Parkinson £118, JA&JH Hewetson £117 £116, A&K Kiernan £117, A Jenkinson £117 twice, DN&D Capstick £116. In total 70 lots of lambs sold for £100 or more. Heavies were dearer on the week by £2/£3 a piece, whilst the general run of handyweights 38kg to 43kg were £3/£5 a piece dearer on the week.
Hill lambs were again to sell, best Mules 44kg to 47kg mainly 183p to 187p or £81 to £88, sample prices inc A Jenkinson 44kg £82, AJ Taylor 46kg £83 (x2) 45kg £83, 50 kg £86, M Ryder & Son 51kg £90 & £89, 48kg £89, 46kg £84, CD&RF kitching 44kg £82.50, PL Metcalfe 47kg £86, JR Taylor 45kg £83.50, JH Throup 45kg £83.50, P Addyman & Son 48kg £88.50, JK Wilson 45kg £83, JC&N Throup 49kg £87.50, 53kg £89.50. Thomas Boothman topped the Swale trade with 45kg at £81.50.
Cast Sheep were another decent show of 422 head, better Continental and Suffolk ewes up a gear today, £90 to £110 regular prices for the stronger end, topping £115.50 from J&J Garnett, Draughton. Mules ewes were up a gear as well, better sorts £75 plus, up to £83.50 from D Harrison, Carla Beck and £81.50 JE Mawer, Pateley Bridge. Horned ewes were generally better to sell as well, with strongest end Swaledales to £73.50 from P Metcalf, Langbar. 407 Ewes av £61.69 and 15 rams av £92.33.

Cracking show of calves today with the largest number forward in a while! All sorts a flying trade with 21 active buyers ringside. Buyers travelling far and wide for the show, coming from Lincolnshire, Sheffield, Middlesbrough and Hull.
The show was Judged in the very capable hands of Graham Stainthorpe. 134 Calves was forward with Blue Heifers the best trade they have been for a while topping at £360 (av 242). While Blue Bulls topped at £450 for the Overall Champion from JP&KE Hartley which later sold to the Judge and 41 Blue Bull Calves sold to average £323.54. The reserve was then awarded to J&SA Lancaster’s Blue Bull which went on to make £410 which also found its new home with the Judge. Tremendous runs of Calves from regular vendors were seen today with a 100% clearance rate. Native Bulls and Heifers sold to a wide audience today with regular purchasers taking the majority and new purchasers chipping away to make the trade. Black and White Calves sold to an average of £60.76 which was a very respectable trade.
