Well it’s happened again with calves dearer still on the week. A fantastic show of black and whites met the same flying trade that we saw last week with the best of bunch being a 1mth 8 day old Friesian from Michael Heron, Bramhope hitting a new high of £280 and Anthony Bolland, Bolton Abbey also having a flyer with a Holstein bull to £260. B&W average today £139.68 with 70% of B&W’s over £100’s.
A quality run from Hartley’s of Beamsley saw their Angus bulls and heifers sell well to £290 and av £254 for his run of 8.
British Blues were out in force again with quality of the highest order from vendors such as Richard Sutcliffe
of Queensbury, IR&DE Wellock of Kirkby Malham and Sowray Bros of Bishop Thornton. Richard Sutcliffe hit the top price with an exceptional bull calf making £640 with Martyn Jennings next in line at £565 and Sowray Bros selling 9 calves and averaging £520.26 topping at £560 for a bull and £550 for a heifer. The Wellock family were also well supported with eight, 1 month old British Blue bulls and heifers averaging over £400. In the Limousin’s, Robert Metcalfe of Brearton hit £510 for a fine bull calf.
Interesting to take into account that at Skipton today black and white calves had an average age of 27 days of age and British Blues an average of 35 days old. Trade looks set to continue in the short to mid term please do not hesitate to contact. Sam Bradley regarding Calf Sales 07538539077.

Craven Dairy Auction (30 head)
A bigger show than we have had in the past month with all cattle forward from local producers. Despite very little dealer interest cattle got away well with 90% of milkers selling to farmers. Regular supporter Robin Jennings of South Stainley took a well-deserved top spot with his Pedigree newly calven heifer giving 34L which sold to a good price of £1800 to the show judge Andrew Townsend, Southfield.
Some sweet heifers certainly helped the averages with David Lawson, Robert Johnson, Chris Broadwith and Alan Throup all helped to forge a good average today with other vendors also receiving a straight trade.
Good to see a demand from genuine farmers forcing the trade despite the treacherous market conditions.
