Bank holiday fails to disappoint once again with a strong trade throughout the sale. John Marshall, Dacre and Alan from Hartley’s, Bolton Abbey tied for the top price with two British Blue calves which were bid all the way to £435 each. Herefords and Angus’s were all well bid at with Richard Spence, Sutton In Craven topping the Herefords with a stonking calf at £330 and John Dodgson, Bank Newton topping the Angus section at £280.
Black and whites were up on the week despite last weeks searing trade averaging £102.5 today with the top at £165 for a Friesian Bull from Stephen Marshall, West End with 10 over £100 and the bottom at an impressive £48.
Seasonal buyers continue to turn up for well reared calves and it is imperative we keep them well supplied.

Craven Dairy Auction (24 head)
Trade a touch stronger today with arguably on average a better show of heifers today than the previous fortnight. Frank Wrathall of Gisburn judged the Pre Sale Show with David and Daughter Suzy Lawson taking top honours in both the Cows and heifers with Andrew Jennings taking the Reserve Champion with his pedigree Abbeyhouse consignment.
A selective ringside forced more desirable sorts into a good trade with ¾’s of the milkers on offer averaging well towards £1400 with a few second rate entries dragging the average back. Lawson topped the day with his Champion reaching £1580 to Alf and Andrew Townsend and his 3rd Prize entry reaching £1640 selling to Brian Blezard of Ribchester. Jennings Farmers reached £1420 with their rosette winner with cousin Robin Jennings not far behind at £1400 for a thick heifer selling to Richard Sutcliffe of Queensbury.
A respectable trade considering the uncertain future with next sale on the 11th April.
