Rearing Calves to £500
B&W av £84 Cont av £334 Native av £175
Fantastic day for all who attended with all types of calves finding a multitude of bidders ringside. With a number of farmer buyers and Smallholders out to snap up some grazers for the potentially brilliant Summer. Natives of all things were a serious price with David Holmes, Otley receiving a flying trade for his run of Shorthorn and Angus calves. Church Farm Enterprises yet again took top honours with a Blue Bull and a Blue Heifer both reaching £500, an elusive figure of late but was deserved today. Robert Metcalfe and Alf Townsend were also both making head way with their continental calves nudging the £400 mark and over.
Black and white calves would have the most realistic trade of all the breeds with a strong £84 average but there were the big prices in amongst them with 10 of the 36 B&W making over £100 and a top of £140 for a pure Holstein bull.

Craven Dairy Auction (42 head)
Brilliant Spring Show and Sale of Dairy Cattle with a strong show of stock in most of the classes, the Newly Calven Cattle in particular was a hard fought section with David & Claire Lawson of Arthington coming out on top with a sweet 2nd Calver giving 40 litres and realised a price of £2200 to James Kayley of Halton West. Lawson’s also had the top price Newly Calven Heifer for a 11 day calved 28 litre heifer which hit the heights of £2420 and on its way to Brian Blezard’s at Ribchester. However Lawson’s were hard run to the top price with Church Farm Enterprises reaching £2380 to WE Blockley, Cheshire and £2350 Brian & Judith Moorhouse of Bellbusk which was snapped up by James Kayley, Halton West.
A brilliant show of Bulls just not quite the trade to match however. Brian Moorhouse was the Victor in the Bull Classes and with some frantic bidding ringside this Son of Gillette Windbrook and from his Yorkshire Herd Competition Conquering Family eventually made 2000gns and is now on his way to the Griffiths family of Penistone. Other notable entrants was Dalesbrad Pan Ash from Alan & Susan Throup which reached 1500gns and went to regular supporter Mark Goodall of Tong. The other noted bull Enchanted Celterix by Woodmarsh Asterix also made 1500gns and was picked up by Richard Walker, West Morton.
