2,960 Prime Sheep
Another big show of sheep attracted a full attendance of buyers. The first new seasons lambs were forward today, consigned by Robert Towers, Farleton and they found a good following, selling to £129 or 289p purchased by Mr Mick Etherington on behalf of Woodends Butchers in Adel.
The Old season lambs would be slightly dearer on the week. Not as many of the very best about today but still Paul Simpson managed to top the sale with a pen of 6 Beltex crosses weighing 38kg selling at £130 each to Vivers Scotlamb. There was a fantastic trade for the heavy lambs and this pushed the overall sale average onto £93.48 per head.
A similar show of Cast Ewes and rams levelled at £79 across the board. Best Mules topping £90, a figure unseen for quite a while, whilst the best of the heavy ewes saw Peter Longdin, Tickhill sell a pair of Texels at £150.50 each.

Easier trade compared to last week’s calf trade however buyers were out in force but with numbers in short supply a couple didn’t even get started. A large amount of young calves today making averages less but calves of all ages selling well. Church Farm Enterprises once again topped the billing with £390 for a ripper of a blue bull. Please Note Black and White Calf Buyer returning in a fortnight with good numbers required to get him started.
