Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)
In preparation for their opening in Skipton later this year Keelham Farm Shop maintained their support at the Easter Prize Show of Prime Cattle by securing both Champion and Reserve. The Champion was a 570kg British Blue Steer for TW&IM Fawcett of Long Preston which made top price on the day of 264.6p/kg or £1508. The reserve a good 525kg Limousin cross Steer from Simon Bennett also joined Keelham farm Shop for 251.5p/kg or £1320.

2,582 Prime Sheep
A cracking show of sheep for early April, and a full line up of buyers gathered ringside today to openly bid for stock.
To open the sale there were 79 head of spring lambs forward, and trade was sharp. Topping the sale at £138 were a pair of Suffolk cross lambs from Mark Evans of Steeton, these were purchased by Nick Dalby for Stephen Maskill, Retail butcher, Hebden Bridge. Robert Towers showed his usual good run of lambs topping at £133 for Charollais crosses purchased by Hartshead Meats, Mossley. Stuart Craven from Melbourne, York sold another good run of lambs this week and these had top sale price per kilo of 291.3p for a pen of 3 Suffolk crosses purchased by Hartshead Meats.
In the hoggs there were some tremendous runs of fed hoggs and these received plenty of interest. Top price of the day was £131 for Texel crosses from Jim Baines purchased by Riley Bros, Dunnockshaw. John Stapleton showed several pens of strong hoggs, the best of which sold for £121 and a total of 4 pens at £110 or more, whilst Kevin Marshall had 6 pens over £110 topping at £120 each. Duke Heslops’ run of hoggs topped at £117.50 for a pen of 10 Continentals weighing 40kg’s. Best kilo prices belonged to Henry Atkinson, Kettlesing whose run of 44 Beltex crosses sold for £126 and £125 or 331.6p/kg and 312.5p/kg. Hayley Baines presented her usual nice run of lambs with 3 pens achieving £115 each whilst John Lord also sold at the same price.
Another big show of 499 cast sheep met with great interest from the 12 active buyers at the ringside, top prices for ewes were £143.50 from CT&EM Hammond of Padside and £142.50 from Richard Ireland, Whalley. Cast rams to £134.50 from Joe Spetch of Long Drax.

A slightly small show of ewes & lambs were presented to a packed ringside of buyers. Trade was slightly stronger on the week. Any young sheep received strong interest. Chris Craven selling 2 crop Texels with Twins to £200, David White selling Mule Shearlings with Twins to £210 and 3 shears with Twins to £206, whilst Andrew Bailey sold Mule Shearlings with twins to £215 and singles to £165. Pick of the older sheep saw Les Grange sell Texel Ewes with Twins at £210 and £204 twice. Kenneth Browes topped the Geld Mule Hogg trade at £140 averaging £129 through.

A very strange trade today with 1st quality cattle a pleasure to sell and bids a plenty ringside with Brian Moorhouse’s Pedigree Heifer Aireburn Mammoth Stephanie the pick of the bunch. The 34kg heifer eventually realised the top price of £2680 to regular supporter John Howard, Heslaker. Keith Downs with his Reserve Champion cow was also well supported with this 35 litre 2nd Calver realising a price of £2100. Others were harder to sell with anything not quite 12 oclock struggled with today’s trade.
