Numbers up again this week with an increase of 60% on the entry of new seasons lambs, as a result trade eased to show an overall selling average of 242.5p/kg or £92.92 per head, average weight of 38.3kg, very much in line with expectations. As noted last week, lambs need to be well finished to get the better prices in each category. The general trade was 250p to 280p for the ¾ bred Texel types, 235p to 250p for the prime Texel and Continental types, 225p to 240p for the commercial Continental and down cross breeds, and 225p to 260p for the lightweights depending upon breed and type. Farm Assurance is an increasing factor in some buyers requirements, non-farm assured vendors are advised to speak to Ted Ogden to help decide if it would be beneficial to their farming business.
A tidy show of hoggs sold to a reduced ringside of purchasers as more firms have made the switch to New Season Lamb.
An increased entry of cast sheep were a shade cheaper on the week.
