Feeding Bulls
Feeding bulls record a lower average on the fortnight but it is the first time that a plentiful supply of 2016 suckled calves have hit the stage. The regular bull customer is looking for a strong bull preferably at 10 months of age to sell inspec under 16 months of age when finished. Clearly with Spring calving this type of animal is currently in short supply but the top end of this year’s Continental cross calves are good to sell to the same customers if weaned and in forward condition.
Store Cattle
A few younger cattle with the show for suckled calves taking place, and given the trade for stronger sorts, the calves found a ready going on and would be a straight price. Some good runs of forward strong sorts attracted extra buyers and typical prices for the best end were £1,250 to £1,380. A good continental 15-18 months plus still sold well, and the 2nd grade commercial sorts were actually dearer on the previous sale.

‘Skiptons Autumns Pedigree Event’
At the Skipton Autumn Pedigree Event the Supreme Championship was awarded to Ken Jackson of Stubbs Walden who presented a 2016 Blonde Bull, a son of Stubbs Walden Intrepid which was unsold. The Reserve Champion a 2016 British Blue Bull sired by Tweeddale Gee Whiz presented by Easingwold’s Ken Gamble from Brickyard Farm made to 2100gns when joining J Laycock of Bacup. Top price was 2400gns paid by by Ian Parkinson of Barden for Siddall Mick a 2016 Hinz son bred from the high ranking Siddall Georgina which was shown by Siddall’s Paul Fletcher. Trevor Stoney of JA Stoney & Son, Bewerley presented his faithful 7 year old French bred Limousin stock bull, which has been used to produce show calves by the Stoney family, which went on to carry on the good work when joining A Newbould & Son of Dallowgill for 1900gns. An impressive Saler bull born in March 2016 consigned by MW Fisher of Cleckheaton sparked interest when selling to John Lund of Driffield for 1600gn and with choice amongst the Aberdeen Angus 2 Bulls got away above expectations at 1350gn from AG Whittle of Bury and J&A Spensley of Thorlby.
