Garrowby siblings shine at Northern Limousin Extravaganza Sedgewick commercial champion overall reserve A brother and sister from Garrowby Farms, which forms part of the Garrowby Estate at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds east of York, secured a pedigree championship double for breeder Clive Rowland at the 2018 Northern Limousin Extravaganza (NLE), the opening day of Skipton Auction Mart’s annual two-day breed showcase.

The Special Spring Sale of Native Store Cattle was held at Skipton Mart on Wednesday. The majority of Cattle were either Beef Shorthorn or Angus sired, with the Shorthorn classes sponsored by Morrisons Plc. Taking the prize for the best pair of stores was noted breeder Gerald Turton of Upsall Castle farms late selling for £1035. The majority of cattle were yearlings or younger, 12-13 mo heifers up to £1050 from Nick Carlisle and a pen of 5 Angus Heifers 10mo selling at £810 from Joe Throup. A run of Shorthorn sired Heifers selling from £900 to £980 form Page Farms.

CCM Skipton in positive mood for 2018 pedigree beef show season Skipton Auction Mart’s 2018 pedigree beef show and sale season begins next week on Wednesday, April 25, with the traditional pipe-opener, the annual ‘Blue Wednesday’ highlight. The fixture, which holds across-the-board interest for pedigree, commercial, beef and dairy breeders, has attracted a 14-strong turnout of 11 up-and-coming breeding bulls, the majority ready for work, along with a trio of breeding females.

Logram ewe secures top price at CCM Winter Texel show The first prize in-lamb aged ewe from Mark and Val Collins, who run the Logram pedigree flock at Low Ground Fold, Howsham, near York, was the top price 700gns performer at Skipton Auction Mart’s 25th annual winter Texel females show and sale, staged on behalf of Northern Area Texel Sheepbreeders. Upsall herd dominates Skipton pedigree Beef Shorthorn highlight The Upsall pedigree Beef Shorthorn herd, Britain’s oldest, was the headline performer at the North of England Beef Shorthorn Club’s eighth annual show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Wed, Nov 9) Owned by The Hon Gerald Turton at The Grange, Upsall, near Thirsk, the herd won two of the three heifer show classes, one of which went on to be crowned supreme champion, sold another for the day’s top price of 6,500gns, plus another at 6,000gns – both eclipsing last year’s centre record price of at 5,900gns.

CCM Auctions Conducted the Pedigree Sale of Charollais Females. A solid trade for quality types was seen at this years sale, with ewe lambs to 800gns, but averaging a wonderful £520.96. Shearling ewes rose to 1,200gns for the first in the ring from Messrs Marwood. (Full report to follow)
