Solid turnout and strong trade at CCM Skipton New Year cattle opener Packed ringsides and robust trade for a solid turnout of 1,076 head were the order of the day at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening New Year fortnightly Wednesday cattle sale. Four-figure selling prices across all classes were common throughout. (Jan 9) The 51 beef breeding cattle on parade featured four pedigree bulls and it was one of these, a four-year-old Limousin, the first entry into the main sale ring, from Richard and Val Brown, of Kirkby Mlaham, that headed the section and the day’s selling prices at £2,100 when finding a new home in Nidderdale with Ned Simpson, of Heathfield, Pateley Bridge.

Fox Farms clean up at CCM Christmas store cattle showcase Fox Farms, of Withgill, Clitheroe, stepped forward to clinch both champion and reserve champion honours at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Christmas store cattle fixture. (Wed, Dec 5) Peter Fox, one of the farming brothers who have won multiple prizes for their livestock at the mart over many years, claimed first and second prize in the heifers show class and first prize in the bullocks section.

Enhanced Skipton native store cattle fixture a resounding success A much enhanced annual autumn fixture for native store cattle at Skipton Auction Mart was well supported by both buyers and vendors alike, attracting a strong and significantly increased turnout of over 100 head and support from both Morrisons Supermarkets through its pioneering Beef Shorthorn Scheme and the Beef Shorthorn Society. (Wed, Sept 12) Taking both first and second prizes in the Beef Shorthorn show class were local breeders, the Daggett family, who run the 20-strong Hartlington Beef Shorthorn herd at Wharfe House Farm in the Yorkshire Dales village of the same name.

Cattle take centre stage at CCM Skipton Autumn highlight A bumper bovine entry approaching 700 head took centre stage at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual Autumn Pedigree Day, featuring shows for multi-breed beef breeding cattle, suckled bulls, steer and heifer calves, primarily 2018-born. (Wed, Oct 10) This year’s pedigree fixture attracted a much larger turnout of 50 bulls and females and a top call of 1,700gns for a 2015-born Aberdeen-Angus bull, Crook Rise Pendle, from local breeders, John and Judith Garnett in Draughton.

Comprising: 698 Feeding Cattle (54 Young Bulls, 40 Beef Feeding Cows, 604 Bullocks & Heifers) & 13 Breeding Cattle. Buyers looking for strong bulls which met a similar trade with the sale headed up by a pen of short keep pure limousin from Procters Farm at 12 months £1340. November 2017 bulls headed by KA&HL Fawcett with a Lim x at £1270. The mixed entry of sizes and ages caused buyers to be selective on quality and mixing cattle. Yet again a large show of Bullocks and Heifers through the ring today with strong cattle remaining a healthy trade considering the number on offer. Younger and hard summered cattle were more numerous, and their trade eased slightly, however a number of fresh faces helped move the large numbers on offer.
