Another Swires family success at Craven Dairy Auction Commercial Holstein Friesian entries bagged the principal prizes in the newly calven show classes at Skipton Auction Mart’s main July Craven Dairy Auction show and sale, as trade for milkers stepped up a gear.

Heseltine hat-trick at Skipton store lamb opener Trade gives heart to both vendors and buyers The Heseltine family, from Hesketh House, Bolton Abbey, notched up a notable hat-trick of consecutive victories when again consigning the first prize pen at Skipton Auction Mart’s opening store lamb show and sale. STORE LAMBS & BREEDING SHEEP - WEDNESDAY 22ND FEBRUARY 2017

Forward: 493 Head, 419 Store Lambs & 74 Breeding Sheep. Overall av £54.26................... Last Wednesday Sale saw a healthy trade for most lambs through the ring with some strong prices right the way through the sale. The long keep lambs looked the strongest trade of the day with short term lambs topping at £68 for some Texel lambs from Ian Mounsey with Texel gimmer lambs topping the day at £82 from D Sayer, Threshfield.

STORE LAMBS & BREEDING SHEEP - WEDNESDAY 8TH FEBRUARY 2017

Forward: 812 Head, 352 Store Lambs & 460 Breeding Sheep Overall av £50.40 Healthy trade for the 352 lambs on sale with mule gimmer lambs from BW Appleton reaching £72 and topping the days trade with a pen of Beltex lambs from AM&HV Brown realising £70. Lambs with frame and shape were easily sold with the Suffolks on offer today averaging £58. Small swale wethers sold particularly well to an average of £27.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sheep Sale: 1,217 Store Lambs & 13 Blue Faced Leicester Females There was a larger entry of lambs this fortnight, but quality was very mixed with lambs generally smaller than the previous sale. Anything with strength and type was well bid for, whilst the long keep lambs were keenly sought with feeder finishers reporting a good supply of winter forage that needs eating. Sales continue fortnightly, please pre-enter stock with the mart office for the catalogue.

SKIPTON AUCTION MART MARKET REPORT – WEDNESDAY 11th JANUARY 2017 Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 1,172 Head, Overall av £51.65 A good entry headage wise for the time of year, although very mixed in quality. Strong lambs look well bid for on the day and some vendors would be well advised to store lambs on Wednesday rather than try to push them through Monday market. Smaller lambs found a very good enquiry and would be in front of most vendors expectations on the day.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs & Addingham Sheep Breeders Annual Show & Sale of a Mule Wether/Store Lamb. Forward: 1,675 Head, Overall av £51.98 Today was also the annual show of the Addingham Sheep Breeders Charity Mule Wether lamb Sale where all the proceeds were in aid of Manorlands hospice. A great thanks to all that presented lambs for sale today and to all who donated items for sale.

Baa-gains galore as annual charity lambs nets over £3,500 Big-hearted bidders were far from sheepish in their support for Addingham & District Sheep Breeders’ Association’s tenth annual charity lamb show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart, when a resounding £3,509, the highest in recent years, was raised for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope, Keighley.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of 2,637 Store Lambs & Breeding Sheep Forward: 2,637 Head, (Overall av £51.26) A sharper trade all round and a full ringside of customers all eager for sheep. Stronger lambs good to sell, especially Mules which were sharper than the previous sale. Quite a few folk with end of season lambs that found a good enquiry for customers looking for the longer keep type of lamb. A very mixed show of horned lambs saw a few pens of stronger end in the £40’s but generally they were longer keep sorts.

Forward: 4344 Head, Overall av £51.69 A good number forward for the time of year with 4,344 through the ring with small long term lambs a strong trade throughout today although larger shorter term lambs did reflect the easing of trade in the prime ring. Still big runs were forward to buy today with 103 Suffolk lambs from RD Metcalfe, Brearton at £61, J&MM Walmsley, Worston with £139 at £60 and 101 Mule wethers from JW Hall, Darnbrook at £55.50. 154 Mule Gimmer Lambs went through the ring today and averaged £62 topping at £82 from JB Taylor, Diggle.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Sheep Forward: 7,786 Head, (Store Lambs Overall av £53.09) Comp: 6,369 Store Lambs, 45 Rams, 1171 Gimmer Lambs & 201 Ewes.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2016

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store Lambs and Breeding Sheep Forward: 7,399 Head, Overall av £55.88 A great entry of lambs met with a strong trade as buyers were out on force looking for both short keep and long keep lambs. Still a few pens of good drawn gimmers in the sale, making prices £75 to £95, whilst the 4,300 Lowland bred lambs (Texel, Suff, Beltex, Charollais) saw strong and smart lowland bred stores on the day around £64-£72. Medium keep lambs were keenly contested being £60-£63 whilst long keep types were £54-£59. A few pens of small lambs in the 40’s.

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2016

Forward: 8,171 Head, Overall av £58.18 A good number forward again for the Wednesday Store Lamb sale with an overall average of 58.18 with Texels averaging £60.02 and Suffolks £63.83 right through. Again Mules were on the receiving end of a good trade averaging £55.65 and topping with a pen from James and Deborah Hall of Darnbrook at £62 and Phillip Mudd of Buckden at £60.50 with a lot of strong framed lambs £55+ right through the day. John Smith of Carleton topped the day at £102, £100 with two pens of texel gimmer lambs with handy store lambs £60+ all day long. Suffolk gimmers were topped by Tony Shepherd of Eshton at £84 with Suffolk store lambs averaging £63.83.

LLEYN GIMMERS - WEDNESDAY 5TH OCTOBER 2016

Caring for Life Lleyn gimmer lambs win first prize at Skipton show Pedigree Lleyn sheep from a flock run by Caring For Life, a Leeds-based registered Christian charity supporting homeless or vulnerable adults, picked up the winner’s red rosette at the annual show of Lleyn gimmer lambs at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Oct 11)

Forward: 7,640 Head, Overall av £57.51 CCM Auctions fortnightly store lamb sale attracted a large company of buyers for a show of 7,640 head. Suffolk and Continental lambs were a sharp trade for all classes, strongest stores being mid to late 60’s, nice types either side of £60 and long keep ones in the mid 50’s.
