CCM Auctions held their Fortnightly Sale of Breeding Ewes together with The Annual Sale of Broken Mouth Ewes. A mixed show of younger sheep saw trade for good smarter sorts along similar lines, although commercial types were harder to cash. In the broken mouth section there was a swift trade for Swaledales, especially the smarter sorts with £55 to £70 the range for these, recording an overall average of £49.

Walkers win again at second Skipton NEMSA highlight Local sheep farmers landed both principal honours at the second annual gimmer lamb show and sale for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart. (Tues, Sept 20) For the second year in succession, the title-winning pen of ten ewe lambs was shown by the Walker family, from Fold Farm in Appletreewick, while the champion pen of 20s came from the Kitching family at Grisedale Farm, Threshfield

Defending champions on song again at Skipton shearling gimmer show Defending champions successfully retained their titles at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer show and sale. (Tues, Sept 13). Thomas and Sheila Binns, of Hecklin Farm, Downham, Clitheroe, again presented the first prize pen of ten Mules, while David Lucas and Angela Nairey, of Bank Hey Farm, Blackburn, were once more responsible for the red rosette-winning pen of ten pure-bred Texels.

Great Annual Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 7,357 head at an overall average of £96.84 per head (+£6.35 up) CCM Auctions conducted their opening Fortnightly Show and Sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday. The pre-sale show was of a high quality with 21 pens of ten and 12 pens of 20 presented for showing.

Booth family championship and top price double at Skipton NEMSA opener The North Craven Smearsett flock of WA&A Booth, from Old Hall Farm, Feizor, above Settle, notched up a notable double when winning both the tens and 20s show classes at the high profile opening annual ewe lamb show and sale for members of the North of England Mule Sheep Association (NEMSA) at Skipton Auction Mart.

Forward: 3,936 head of Gimmer Shearlings. CCM Auctions conducted their Great Annual Prize Sale of Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton on Tuesday. A nice show of sheep were presented to a full ringside of both regular local customers and new customers, some of whom had travelled some distance looking for quality types. Continental sheep were in great demand, especially the good sorts, Texels up £35 on average to stand at £155 across the board. Mule sheep were also better to sell on the year, and a healthy average of £138 was recorded. As a result the overall sale average was £18.24 up on the year to stand at £141.19. CCM Auctions held their special sale of breeding ewes (2 shear +) at Skipton on Friday together with rams. A nice entry of sheep attracted a large crowd all keen for sheep. Rams started the sale and found a good enquiry levelling at £350. Ewes were very keenly contested, David Coates presented a good run of Mule 2 shears selling at £155 twice, £150 and £145, whilst Thomas Binns sold the same at £150 and £145. John Wright of Airton sold three pens of Suffolk Mule Shearlings all at £140 each. Older ewes sold well, with broken mouth correct below ewes very good to sell.

436 Breeding Sheep comprising 137 Sheep with 259 lambs at foot, 34 Charollais Females and 6 Rams Today’s sale included a dispersal of Charollais and Mule Sheep on behalf of The Sedgwick Family from Bough Gap, Trawden following the untimely passing of Peter who along with Joan had been longstanding Charollais Sheep breeders and enthusiasts. The sheep, although coming from a high hill farm on the Yorkshire/Lancashire border, were shown in decent fettle and were good sound sorts. The ring was packed to the rafters with friends and fellow breeders all looking to purchase stock. The Charollais’s all found new homes at what were seen to be reasonable prices, whilst the commercial sheep sold in front of recent trade, which would reflect the genuine nature of these sheep.

247 Breeding Sheep (comprising 105 Sheep with 142 lambs at foot) A large show for late in the season with over 100 outfits presented for sale and a slightly sharper trade as some customers look to make use of grass growth with the hotter weather. Older sheep were generally equivalent of £50 plus per life and singles £55 to £65 per life. Next weeks’ sale includes a dispersal, at short notice, of 117 Mule Ewes with strong Lambs. 563 Breeding Sheep (comprising 224 Sheep with 327 lambs at foot and 12 Geld Gimmer Hoggs) A larger show of breeding sheep today for the bank holiday sold to a packed ringside of customers. Good young sheep were a sharp trade being dearer on the week, whilst older sheep maintained recent good prices as grass is more plentiful. The show was well supported and the classes for Singles created some of the top prices on the day.

447 Breeding Sheep (comprising 170 Sheep with 258 lambs at foot and 19 Geld Gimmer Hoggs) A better show of sheep late in the season and a larger ringside of customers assembled as well. Megan Thomas topped the sale with Zwartble cross Gimmer Hoog with a nice Blue Texel cross Gimmer Lamb at Foot which sold for £225 the outfit which sold to Messrs Greensit of Ripon. Richard Stockdale sold two pens of Texel Hoggs with singles for £185 the outfit.

578 Breeding Sheep (comprising 231 Sheep with 347 lambs at foot) A slightly smaller and more varied entry this week were presented for sale. A few pens of nice hoggs with lambs selling to a sharper trade on the week, and anything with strong lambs regardless of the age of the ewe was keenly sought, with most classes showing a slight rise in prices.
