ANNUAL SALE OF PEDIGREE RAMS ON BEHALF OF MEMBERS OF THE DSBA. 31 Rams sold overall average £158.35 Judges Andrew Wright & Henry Fawcett saw their judgement backed when their Supreme Champion made top price of 700gns at the Annual Show & Sale of Dalesbred Rams. The Champion and 1st prize shearling ram shown by Godfrey & Alison Haygarth of Tosside is by the £3800 Karen Harrison (Blubberhouses) ram out of a Michael Dawson bred ewe, and was purchased by Richard Brown of Leyburn. Messrs Haygarth & Daughter emerged to the fore again with a shearling ram by the same sire bred from a homebred ewe which joined David Lambert of Leyburn for 500gns. In a strong shearling ram section an unplaced ram shown by Messrs JH&JA Graham & Sons of Lofthouse made 440gns, by a Kevin Wilson ram bred from a Colin Price ewe joined JB&LJ Shirt of Edale. With a reduced entry it was encouraging to see the quality of stock on offer which in turn created interest and custom amongst top breeders.

CCM Auctions conducted their fourth fortnightly sale of Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Mart on Tuesday. Where a large crowd of buyers gathered to produce a trade that seemed to be dearer than previous sale. Strongest lambs were £100 plus, smart lambs were £88-£95 and a straight running lamb could be bought for £80 to £88. Next sale of Gimmer Lambs is on Wednesday 12th November. Entries by Monday 3rd November. Forward: 2,370 head Gimmer Lambs. Average £79.77

Haygarths win again and scoop high price at Skipton Dalesbred ram annual show Father and daughter Godfrey and Alison Haygarth, of Aigden Farm, Wigglesworth, emerged victorious once again with the champion at the Dalesbred Sheep Breeders’ Association’s annual show and sale of shearling and aged rams at Skipton Auction Mart.

Ewe lambs – all 5,320 of them from the pick of the region’s sheep farmers - were in the spotlight for their annual show and sale day at Skipton Auction Mart. Standalone shows for Masham, Dales Mule and Swaledale ran alongside the third seasonal fixture for North of England Mule gimmer lambs. Trade was level across all breeds, producing averages very similar to 2013.

The quality of sheep at this sale continues to get better every year and the sheep on offer are a true credit to the producers of this area with strong well bodied ewes ideal for crossing in plentiful supply. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Hampshire Downs, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex, Cheviot and other breeds. Forward: 2,091 Breeding Sheep Comp 928 Shearlings & Correct Ewes and Annual sale of 1,163 Broken Mouth Ewes CCM Auctions held their Fortnightly Sale of Breeding Ewes together with The Annual Sale of Broken Mouth Ewes. Trade for young sheep was equal to that seen at the previous sale with shearlings of all breeds good to sell. The second part of todays’ sale comprised of the broken mouth correct below ewes, the sheep in this section were shown in far better bloom than last year, and this definitely had a positive effect on trade with prices much stronger on the year.

Second Prize Show & Sale of North of England Mule Ewe Lambs on behalf of NEMSA Members. Forward: 8,201 head at an overall average of £92.11 per head (+ £3.44 on 2013) CCM Auctions held their 2nd Fortnightly Sale of North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of members of NEMSA on Tuesday at Skipton. An increased entry forward for sale saw a nice trade, with the overall average rising £3.44 to level at £92.11. The prize show on the morning of sale produced the following results.

Forward: 2,530 Head comp: 2,466 Ewes & Shearlings & 64 Pedigree Charollais CCM Auctions held the fortnightly sale of Gimmer Shearlings and Breeding Ewes at Skipton Mart on Tuesday. Young Ewes were a reasonable trade, although older ewes would be harder to place than the previous sale. The offering of gimmer shearlings comprised a nice selection and the average stood at £152, £3 up on the August sale, with trade seen to be every bit as good.

Goosnargh gardener blooms at Skipton gimmer shearling show Full-time gardener Tim Jackson, who raises sheep as a hobby, bloomed when turning out the first prize pen of Mules at Skipton Auction Mart’s second annual shearling gimmer show and sale. Mr Jackson, of Raigill Farm, Goosnargh, near Preston, landed the spoils with ten shearlings bought at a Skipton gimmer lamb sale the previous year, growing them on at home with the help of his father Joe.
