The general trade for the Suffolk and Continental ewes was £60 to £70 per life, odd lots making more, with a top per life equivalent of £70.50 from Stuart Beeforth and £200 per outfit to the same vendor. Some nice young Mule Ewes from Chris Craven topped at £190.

Fortnightly Catalogue Sale of Store & Breeding Sheep Forward: 1,360 Head – 925 Store Hoggs; 411 Inlamb Sheep & 24 Blue Faced Leicesters. A good show of store sheep were good to sell with plenty of customers assembled. Another nice show of inlamb sheep saw strong older sheep in good demand.

Booths seal BFL females hat-trick at Skipton The North Craven-based Smearsett flock of WA & A Booth clinched its third successive championship at Skipton Auction Mart’s annual registered show and sale of Blue Faced Leicester females. Father and son David and Robin Booth, of Old Hall Cottage, Feizor, secured a memorable hat-trick with their first prize gimmer hogg, by one of their highly regarded stock tups, C1 Shafthill, acquired as a lamb from Northumberland breeder John Smith-Jackson, of Melkridge, near Haltwhistle.

The Mule lambs found a good following with Southern buyers out in force to purchase running lambs, leading to an average of £74.94, a fall of £9.80 on the same sale in 2012.

Overall Average was £91.97 (-£24.99 on 2012) CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Swaledale Draft Ewes and Gimmer Shearlings at Skipton Mart on Saturday. Trade was better than expected on the year, with prices not as far back as was feared prior to sale, but still offering buyers sheep at better value for money than recent years.

MARKET REPORT - FRIDAY 4TH OCTOBER: RAM SALE CCM Auctions held their Annual Sale of Rams at Skipton Mart on Friday. With selling today spread across 4 sale rings the market was full to capacity with breeds covering the main sales for Blue Faced Leicesters, Suffolks, Hampshire Downs, Blue Texels and Zwartbles together with second sales for Texels, Charollais, Beltex, Lleyn, also Chamoise, Cheviot and other breeds.

MARKET REPORT - TUESDAY 1ST OCTOBER: 2,437 head Breeding Sheep comprising 759 Correct, 1662 Broken Mouthed & 16 Rams. A mixed show of sheep met with a mixed trade, some classes of young sheep looking as well sold as at recent sales, but some classes cheaper. The broken mouthed ewes generally selling away well, with Swaledales averaging just over £30.

CCM Auctions held the fortnightly sale of Gimmer Shearlings and Breeding Ewes at Skipton Mart on Tuesday where trade was seen to be slightly better than at the previous sale especially for the commercial types of sheep.

Forward: 7,068 head at an overall average of £102.00 per head (-£7.11 down) CCM Auctions conducted the opening show and sale of NEMSA members Mule Gimmer Lambs at Skipton Auction Mart, North Yorkshire on Tuesday. Another increased show of lambs at this major sale sold well on the day to record an overall average of £102.00 per head, just over £7 per head down on the year. Given all the external factors affecting the sheep trade at the moment this looks a fair result all round for both buyers and sellers.
