Feeding Bulls – a fair trade if a shade easier on the fortnight average £1034 verses £1070 with much of the difference due to clearing of pens for lambing and presenting bulls that would normally be held over. The younger end if U grade types held up very well with a run of well batched continentals in finished condition born March to July averaging £1124 for JA&JM Wade & Son. Bulls in the 330/350kg most £950 and all the bulls under 12months average £1024. The heavier and better end in this age group to £1310 for MJ&A Carr but £1200 was a barrier for this category today. Bulls 12 months to 17 months average £1083 with top prices 2 good February Limousin bulls from J Pickles at £1360 and £1300. As with the younger bull £1200 was a threshold and straw and feed cost are now factoring in discussions with buyers.
Feeding Cows – an exceptional trade and a useful entry of cattle carrying finish. Last sale cows averaged £891 todays average £1036. Best end of the British Blues to £1700 av £1115 with 5 entries over £1200. Similar in the Limousins top £1315 av £1055. Natives to £1130 for a Hereford x, Angus to £1030. As the lightweights end grazing customers ensured a fierce demand with only the odd one under £700 and the run of lean grazing cows £700-£950.
Stores - Store Cattle on fire today. Some tremendous runs of cattle from local and counties a far. Large bullocks and heifers selling well away to our regular line up of buyers all competing against one another. A run of 40 Blue heifers and Bullocks from B Kaye, Sheffield at 16 months old all sold between £1070-£1205. Large end dairy bred blue bullocks with weight about as well £1180-£1240. Strong Blue bullocks with a little less weight £1100-£1180. Medium finishing good less frame £1040. Blue heifers’ best goods £1100-£1180 Strong goods £1080-£1120. Medium finishers £1040 and mediums plainer goods £980-£1020. Native cattle sold to their regular competitive audience Angus steers. Big bullocks plenty of weight £1295-£1430 and other large bullocks less weight £1130-£1200. Grazing Angus Bullocks £880-£930. Lim bullocks £1220-£1400 for the better ended sorts with size and £1400-£1480 for the number 1 goods. Lim grazing bullocks £920-£1020 with the Lim grazing heifers £880-£960. Smaller/ plainer grazing goods £780-£880. Large number 1 Lim heifers £1260-£1450. Feeding Lim heifer £1080-£1180.
Suckler bred calves sold to a wide audience of purchasers both regular and new. A run of April- June born cattle from Flash House Farms, Penistone sold at £880-£1020 for Lim x, Stabiliser x, and Char x. Plenty of men for bullocks £900 to £1000 for 9mo/11mo nice hairy sorts for grazing, and heifers Mid £800’s onwards to £1000 for similar goods. Smart cattle under a year old suitable for retail shops saw James Middleton with 11mo bullocks at £1280, Healaugh Farms also at £1280 for 11mo bullocks, Mark Ewbank Middlesmoor £1400 for a cracking black heifer, KA&HL Fawcett £1320 and £1300, Healaugh Farms £1280 and S&T Fawcett £1220 all heifers under a year. Plenty of purchasers out to secure good quality summering cattle.
