Feeding Bulls were another good trade for a superb run of bulls. Trade was equally on a par with last fortnights sale. Overall av of £1038 against £1050 with a pen or two if hard grazing type bulls.

Bulls under 12 months averaged £1011 with the top end £1220-£1390.

Bulls 12-18 months were a particular strong trade to average £1168 with a similar strong for top end cattle £1250 to £1380.

Smart light bulls 250-300kg continue to find a market at £950-£1000.

The breeds saw limousine top the averages at £1089, Blues average £1047 and blonde £1059. Buyers continue to compete strongly for heavy bulls with less enthusiasm for extreme lean cattle.

Feeding Cows continue in its recent rich vein to average £920. 2 continental entries stood out, Simon Bennetts Blue selling to £1490 and Chris Akriggs Limousin selling to £1390. 37 month old heifers sold to £1190 with a Shorthorn from John Key. The remaining first cross bed cows continue to make upwards of £1000 if carrying flesh and strong interest in lean cows to graze.

Top price for a cast bull today was £2020 which was a 6 year old British Blue from James Middleton which went to feed. Cast Bulls averaged £1710.

Commercial store cattle sold well with Large runs of Bullocks and heifers selling to premium prices with size, style and frame the best sold. Some small soft heifers a touch less on the fortnight. 7-10 Bullocks with range £980-£1080 Smaller goods £880-£980 with a few soft plainer bullocks bred out native type cows at 6/8 months either side of £800. Commercial runs of young continental heifers of the 7/10-month age range sold with R grade continentals with size at £920-£1020. Slightly smaller end either £780-£840 and a few plainer goods £680-£780.

Large feeding cattle sold very well with a good mixed show in of all breeds and sexes. Large Black and Whites £930-£950 other large feeders £875+ mediums £800. Grazing end/ young sorts £420-£580. Plenty of natives on offer. Largest feeding sorts £1185-£1250 £1100-£1180 for size and power, slightly leaner feeders £1080+ Some 9/10-month grazers £830-£920. Angus heifers mixed show on offer with 42 passing through the ring. Some good strong feeders £1120-£1180 other feeders (60-£1040 for smaller feeders and £1040-£1120 for lean feeders with size. Some young grazers £680-£760 and some medium goods in the £800-£920. Continual feeders away with usual premium prices usual buyers ringside competing for numbers and goods. Dairy bred blus £1130-£1220 for heavy goods with flesh. Leaner goods or smaller £1040-£1100 and a few smaller feeders just above the four-figure mark. Blue heifers £1100+ for strong heavy goods. Other feeders £1040-£1100 and medium lean sorts £960-£1020. Some strong Lims sold at a premium trade with buyers out in force for the retail types. Good ended beast £1200-£1300 with a top of £1440 from N&J Thwaite, Hellifield. Slightly smaller £1140-£1200 but still U Grade feeders.
Native Sired Store Cattle saw 241 head of Bullocks Heifers and Bulls in the entry today for the Spring Morrisons Native Sale. As ever an excellent enquiry for all classes of natives and dairy sired here at Skipton, Shorthorn Bullocks peaking at £1160, Angus Bullocks £1250, Hereford Bullocks £1280, angus Heifers £1180. CRAVEN CHAMPIONS

Today we heal the Annual Craven Champions Show & Sale with quality cattle forward from many regular consignors all put before local show judges John Mellin & Clare Cropper of Long Preston.
The supreme champion came from the unhaltered classes when they tapped up a British Blue Heifer from Messr JC Walker & Son of Dunsop Bridge, which later went on to be sold for £2200 to Messrs Handley, Chapel le dale.
It was the reserve supreme champion from K&GJ Huck of Austwick that took the top price on the day when James’s May 2020 born Limousin heifer sold at £2500 again to Messrs Handley.
Messrs Walker also made £2300 of the first prize halter led British Blue Heifer, whilst other show winner s and quality sorts were £1400 to £1900 regular away. (Full results list below)
