MARKET REPORT - MONDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER - DAIRY & CALVES

Craven Dairy Auction (29 head) A hard day selling with a lot of strong dairy cattle hard sold, the knock on effect of the downturn in the dairy sector. Robert Crisp took top honours with David Lawson taking a deserved second in the show ring. But all eyes were on the sale ring with concerns how much cheaper the milkers would be. Thankfully a responsive ringside made the cattle a straighter trade than first predicted with a respectable overall average for 1st Class and Pedigree Heifers of £1751 and Cows £1606.

PEDIGREE BELTEX SALE - SATURDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER

BELTEX TOP 9500gns AT SKIPTON. NEW RECORD PRICE FOR A SHEEP AT SKIPTON MART. BELTEX SHEEP SOCIETY ANNUAL SHOW & SALE OF PEDIGREE RAMS AND FEMALES. At this years’ Beltex Society sale, Skipton once again demonstrated the sound base of strong commercial trade for which it is known, with shearling ram averages rising by £140.78 to level at £726.49p.

Cropper supreme champion sets all-time mart record sheep price at Skipton pedigree Beltex highlight A new Skipton Auction Mart record price for a single sheep of 9,500 guineas, or £9,975, was established at the Beltex Sheep Society’s 14th annual show and sale of pedigree rams and females at Skipton Auction Mart

STORE LAMBS - WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2014

Forward: 7,251 Head, Overall av £54.10 The largest show of the season so far saw the first of the drawn Suffolk and Continental gimmer lambs forward for sale. Trade for these was good for the quality sorts, with nice skinned clean headed lambs receiving good attention. Smaller lambs however are best left mixed with the wethers. The Store Lambs saw Suffolk & Continentals in strong demand. Smaller lambs £50 to £53, medium types £54 to £57 and strong end £58 to £62. Quality smart store lambs (Beltex) £64 to £72. A very large show of Mule & Masham Wethers (2,198 head) did not maintain the trade of the previous sale, keeping lambs £45 to £50, medium term lambs £50 to £53.

WEDNESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER - MASHAM WETHERS PRESS REPORT

Breed chairman lands Skipton Masham wethers show The largest entry of CCM Skipton’s peak sheep sale season so far saw JM Wilson & Sons, of Beckwithshaw, triumph in the Masham wethers annual prize show. David Wilson, chairman of the Masham Sheep Breeders Association, picked up the top prize for a pen of 40 Masham wethers, which sold for £55 per head.

BREEDING SHEEP - TUESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 2014

CCM Auctions fortnightly Sale of Breeding Sheep produced a nice trade for younger sheep, with Shearlings to 3crop ewes, especially Mules in strong demand. Topping the sale at £195 was Geoff Carr, Gisburn with Charollais Gimmer Shearling to £195 each. Older ewes and broken mouthed ewes were generally £10 in front of the Monday trade.
