Annual Sale of Pedigree British Blue Cattle.
Mark and Elaine Hartley's Pendle Herd put out the leading price at the Craven Cattle Marts Ltd ‘Blue Wednesday’ the annual Show & Sale of Pedigree British Blue Cattle. Pendle Lightening the 2016 born Bijouter et de Roupage son bred out of a Newton Blues Chico cow Pendle Heather renowned for easy calving was a 4,600gns purchase for D&FJ Leeming of Ramsgill. Pendle Lightening was reserve champion in the pre sale show judged by Dacres Ian Moorhouse.
Littlebank Leo an embryo son of Empire D’Ochain bred from Solway View Jelly Baby cow settled into natural calving in the Littlebank herd since being flushed. Leo is a dark shapely bull and he found a new home in RA Busby & Son of Marrick for 3100gns.
Messrs GW&KE Wallbank of Keasden had the 3rd prize with High Moss Larry another Empire D’Ochain embryo son bred from Meteorite De Bois Remont which sold to Colin Whitelock of Gargrave for 2200gns.
The Greystone herd of Messrs Coates produced the Greystone Carbon son Greystone Lion who was not shown in the pre sale show. The 2016 bull easy calving on both sides of the pedigree created wide interst before finding a new home at Haverah Park with J Ryder & Son for 3800gns.
Stewart Gill of Dacre with his Hallfield herd sold a bull by his homebred sire Hallfield Jasper, a Bluegrass Cyclone son bred out of Hallfield Betty, which sold to Francis Caton of Weston for 3000gns.
Following behind was Hallfield Lennox another Jasper son bred from a Visconti De St Fontaine cow Hallfield Amber which made 2900gns selling to JS Garthwaite of Wakefield.
