A trade that hasn’t been seen in a long time! Holstein Friesian calves were a phenomenal trade with 15 over £100 and 5 of those over £200 topping with a fantastic 8 wk old holstein calf from David Hall of Conistone Cold at £260. The number of farmer buyers chasing these good black and white calves can’t be ignored.
Continental calves were no different to the black and whites with farmers forcing a strong trade again. Blue heifers were sky high with an average of £494 for the 5 entered topping at £505 for a fine entry from John Blackwell. Bulls weren’t far behind at an average of £464 topping at £530 for a strong entry from Fred Houseman.
The strength of the calf trade is unrelenting built not only on traditional rearers and finishers but also buyers from grassland farms looking to utilise home produced forage and grow calves into strong store cattle.
