Spring calf show this morning with a nice show of 108 calves this morning with 85% of the calves British Blue sired or Black and White bulls. In the pre-sale show a tremendous British Blue bull from Hartley’s of Bolton Abbey was picked out as Champion by the Judge Tony Binns. The champion topped a very strong show of blue bulls with 12 of the entry over £400 peaking with the champion from Hartley’s at £450.
A strong turnout of black and white calves met 5 different buyers ringside and a much improved trade matching the quality of calves on offer. Some fleshy 8-12week calves from John Dugdale, Settle topped the day with three hitting the £200 bracket with the same vendors runs of 9 b&w bulls averaging £161.
Continental heifers were out in force today with a better result for the calves on offer this week than previous weeks. Best calves still not quite back to top gear with some strong heifers peaking at £340 twice from M&R Smith and Joss Lancaster respectively and averaging a respectable £278 for all types.
A big thank you today’s sponsor Dugdale Nutrition and to all vendors and buyers for making the day a success.
