A tremendous show of calves for this morning’s spring show and sale of calves with Robert Foster of Tadcaster taking charge with the judging. The judge stood by his decision and bought the champion, a tremendous British Blue bull presented by Mike Longster of Fellbeck with the hammer falling at £460. The Reserve Champion from Sowray Bros of Bishop Thornton again sold to the judge for £440 this time for cracking 7 week old Genus Jack son. A superb run of calves were on show today especially in the British Blue bulls with 14 calves over £400 with a Simmental Bull also up at £440.
Continental heifers not quite as potent this morning however best calves were still good to sell. Top price again came from Sowray’s with another jack sired calf selling to Brothers Malcolm and Stephen Abbott of Dacre for £430, topping a section average of £303.67.
Native calves hit a high gear once more with Aberdeen Angus bulls averaging £235 and heifers £150.44 with £290 topping the bulls and a belting heifer from Brian Wellock at £240. Black and whites were a nice trade with a run of bobby calves ruining a very healthy trade with the Clarke family of Hampsthwaite seeing the best trade at £130.
