108 Rearing Calves to £500
B&W av £105.08 Cont av £354.1 Native av £267.7
108 calves forward today with a lot of young calves on show with B&W’s and Continental calves averaging 38 days old.
Fine runs of calves certainly helped with Chris and Margie Hall and Joss Lancaster both bringing good numbers along with Stephen and Eddie Jeanes of Glusburn and David Hall of Conistone Cold who both did well with some strong black and white calves.
Native calves were the strongest I’ve seen them for a long while with JM Smith of Carleton topping with a strong Aberdeen Angus bull calf hitting £350 with Chris Hall chasing up with £340 and £330. Hartley’s took the honours in the heifers just reaching £300 with Hall’s 2nd again at £260. Overall Native Calves averaged £267.7.
Continental Calves remain strong with Richard Sutcliffe, Queensbury hitting the sale high of £500 and a lot of young sweet calves selling really well, for example a 3 ½ week old Blue Bull from Joss Lancaster making £465 and Blue Bulls averaging £387.67.
