Rearing Calves to £500 (127)
B&W av £60.86 Cont av £328.17 Native av £251.5
Real show of calves today with 127 landing on the docks this morning and a healthy trade to boot, British Blues headlined the very top prices with Church Farm Enteprises taking the top four highest prices with some tremendous calves which topped at £500, 490 x2 and £475. Geoff and Margaret Booth of Lothersdale were not far behind at £475 and Shaun Sowray at £470.
Black and whites saw an easier trade with a lot of younger calves tempering the trade today. Best sorts well past £100 and topped with a well fleshed Friesian sort at £180. Limousin’s topped by Sowrays at £395 were well fought over with genuine 3 week old bulls well into the £300’s.
Natives were into a high gear again today with Angus Bulls averaging £265 and a packet of Lincoln Red cross heifers from David and Pauline Brown of Ramsgill averaging £258.
Calves today averaged 27 days of age right through the sale.
