John Hindle flies high again at Skipton Christmas poultry showcase Red Rose poultry breeder John Hindle, from Oswaldtwistle, ruled the roost yet again when once more exhibiting the champion pen of birds at the Craven Premier Poultry Christmas show and sale at Skipton Auction Mart. (Sat, Dec 14) Mr Hindle has been a high flier at all three of the mart’s poultry shows this year, standing champion at the Spring fixture with White Wyandottes and reserve champion with Light Sussex at the autumn highlight.

He took his second title of 2019 with his first prize trio of large fowl, on this occasion 22 to 24-week-old Buff Orpingtons – a cockerel and two point-of lay-pullets – which sold for £91.
The defending champion, Calderdale’s Stephen Hitchen, from Ludendenfoot, was again to the fore when taking the reserve championship with his first prize pen of small fowl, a trio of July, 2019, Silver Laced Wyandotte pullets, which made £65.
The first prize pen of waterfowl, a pair of White Indian Runners from another Lancashire breeder, Graham Seedall, of Billington, sold for £25.
The day’s leading price of £100 twice fell to trios of 2018 Partridge Wyandotte from regular vendor Sid Moore, of Bedale, one pen finishing runners-up in the small fowl show class.
Show judge was Tim Metcalfe, of Clayton, Bradford. Craven Premier Poultry Auctions return in the New Year with the Spring show and sale on Saturday, March 7.
