At the Craven Champions Sale 2017, the pre sale show on Tuesday evening saw a wonderful entry of 81 Cattle for the ten classes, judging was undertaken by one the UK’s leading showmen Mr Phil Sellers of Lincoln who has won virtually every major national show during summer and winter with his show cattle. His expertise was called upon all evening with some very strong classes of cattle placed before him, and the quality on offer was a great reflection of the type of cattle available at Skipton on a regular basis.
The Supreme Champion Animal and winning The Jack Walker Trophy was Ebony, a lovely Grey British Blue sired Heifer from noted suckled calf and pedigree breeder Sheila Mason who trades as JH&SM Mason, Keasen Head, Clapham a farm which lies on the edge of Three Peaks in North Craven. Born 29th May 2016, Ebony caught the eye of show judge Phil Sellars who described it as “a wonderful show potential beast and correct animal”. Ebony later entered the sale ring and attracted fast bidding from the ringside, rising to a successful bid and new centre record of £3,200 for a store animal when selling to Messrs Pendlebury from Wigan.
Standing Reserve Supreme Champion after having been awarded Male Champion was the British Blue Sired Steer from last years exhibitors of the Champion animal Messrs JC Walker & Son of Dunsop Bridge. Buster, a 10 month old steer who carried on a long line of prize winners over the years from Brennand Farm, he was sold for £1,600 to Michael Wynne of Derbyshire.
The average price for all of the prize winning animals was £1,372, a great result considering the young age of many of these “show potential” animals.
A huge thankyou to all of our sponsors for their generosity in giving prizes, and to each of the vendors for supporting the show and making it a great event that was very well attended by people from a very large area.
