CRIMPLE HEAD & MEIFOD - SATURDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2020

Crimple Head & Meifod Dispersal CCM Skipton played host on Saturday to the Complete dispersal sale of the Crimple Head flock from Richard Wilson, Beckwithshaw, and the dispersal of the adult female portion of the Meifod Flock from Gareth Jones, Henllan, Denbigh.

Rarely do two flocks like these come to the market on one day, and both Richard and Gareth’s individual attention to detail shone through in the sheep, with type evident in abundance and allied to carcass for the commercial element of what they have achieved over the years.

The Crimple Head Sale achieved 29 four figure prices, and an overall average of £1018 for 97 head sold. Richard’s leading sale price was 5,000gns for one of the favourite’s, Lot 6, Patch. Sired by the Mullan Armani son Strathbogie  Bachelor and from a dam by the highly used Hull House Winner, a Langside Thunderbird son who has put such a strong stamp across this flock, Patch was keenly contested ringside and eventually went home to County Durham with Messrs Teward.
Another of the highly fancied sheep from Crimplehead was another Shearling Lot 9, again bred exactly the same way as Patch, it went on to sell for 4,200gns, this time to R Mason of Lancashire.
A third shearling gimmer, Lot 3, with the same bloodlines achieved 3,600gns this time heading over the water to Northern Ireland with Federnagh Texels.
The last of the Crimple Head Shearlings to hit 3,000gns was another Strathbogie Bachelor daughter selling to Flash House Farms in South Yorkshire.
The first ewe in the ring from Crimple Head hit 2,200gns, a 2018 born daughter of Roxburgh YMCA, bought by The North Family. A second ewe made the same price, this time back to Hull House Winner out of an Arkle U Star ewe, and it sold to North Yorkshire buyers PT&L Mills.
Shearling Rams topped at 2,200gns for Lot 82, Ram Lambs to 1,300gns for Lot 95, and Ewe Lambs to 1,100gns for lot 101.

The top price of the day however came from the Meiford Sale, when Gareths senior ewes attracted a massive amount of interest both ringside and over the internet. Lead sale at 6,000gns came for lot 46, out of the Kirrin Ewe and sired by the 11,000gns Sportsmans Tremendous it went to the Welsh Borders to join Rob Evans at Hope Valley Texels who also secured the full sister to it (lot 47) at 3,400gns.
The Meifod Sale also achieved 4,400gns for Lot 50. Sired by the 7,000gns Arkle Yahoo, out of a Hope Valey Wiz Khalifa ewe, it sold to C Bellis of Peniel.
24 sheep averaged £1421
