Almost a shippon full for the dairy sale this morning with the added attraction of the 5 well bred pedigree heifers. Despite continued optimism of the increasing milk price with the reality of it hitting the bank accounts looking more and more like being the back end rather than late summer. With a slight dampener on enthusiasm ringside trade was not quite as brisk as last time out but developed into a healthy average.
Louise Wood of Broadwood Edge took both Champion and Reserve with her consignments to the ring and sold to a high of £1600 and £1480. Tony and Son James sold a strong homebred heifer for a sale price of £1650 with Keith Downs seeing a high of £1580 selling to Ken and Lynne Throup, Woofa Bank.
The pedigree maiden heifer drew some strong interest despite only five in the catalogue. Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton won the pre sale show with his heifer Ravensgate Ransom Hilda, a Ravensgate Garrison Hilda Daughter by Chalclyffe Ransom and Sold for £900 to Simon Spensley of Gargrave. The second highest price of the day came from the 13mth old Holmedale Cruise Poppy, Daughter of Holmedale Hercules Poppy VG85 and with healthy back pedigree sold for £880 to Abbott Brothers of Dacre.
