DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 28TH OCTOBER 2019

Craven Dairy Auction (7 head) A tidy entry for the twice monthly Craven Dairy Sale sponsored by NMR (represented by Helen Whitaker) and the show judged by Martyn Jennings. The show champion was a lovely pedigree newly calven heifer from M Baul & Sons, Ravensgate Herd in Bishop Thornton. Sired by Welcome Armitage Pesky PLI +£410 and out of the Blossom family, she sold calved 20 days giving 32 litres at £2100 locally to John Howard. Messrs Baul sold another newly calven heifer out of the Honesty family by Model Man giving 32 litres being calved 23 days, she sold for £1800.



ASE Crisp & Son, Calton, regular consignors to the Dairy Auction presented a newly calven homebred heifer fresh calved and by the Genus bull ‘MVP’ it was successfully sold at £1720. Also in the shippon today were a run of yearling maiden heifers from A Dickinson & Son, selling to a top of £720 ave £680.

A total of 75 calves on show this week with some buyers going home short of calves. More calves could have been sold especially 4 week old quality calves. Overall the calf trade was very similar to the last couple of weeks.

Blue Bulls topped at £370 to ave £270 with a total of 10 being showed. Blue Heifers similar in line with national prices topping at £270 and averaging £190 with 19 on offer. Ab Angus Bulls were a storming trade topping at £360. Heifers also sold very well with A Sowray topping at £205. Lim Bulls sold exceptionally with a good show on offer topping at £350 from Hayton & Stocks and averaged £263. Lim Heifers were a little harder to place but still averaged £158. The calves were smaller but looked value for money. There were 14 B&W calves on show averaging £53 with a new buyer at the ring side along with weekly regulars.
