DAIRY & CALVES - MONDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2015

Rearing Calves to £400 (61) B&W av £70.32 Cont av £325.64 Native av £234 Struart Petty of Draughton took the top price of £400 with his fine British Blue bull with all blue bulls averaging £330. Blue heifers were a touch easier with arguably not the sweetest of calves on show averaging £272. Good show right through the black and whites with only an odd bobby calf simmering the average to a respectable £70.32. Always worth remembering the average age of our calves when comparing prices with Black and White calves 41.2 days old on average and Continentals 44.4 days.

Craven Dairy Auction (43 head)

Best goods a strong trade with Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton topping the day at the illusive £2000 with David and Suzy reaching £1950 and £1920 for two smart pedigree heifers. Certainly a day of two halves with good honest middle of the road heifers arguably a touch easier than last fortnight.

First quality commercials were a handy packet of milkers with a similar average to last fortnight at £1479 with high quality pedigree heifer forcing the average to a healthy £1673.

Incalf were arguably similar with heifer calves getting away nicely again at an average of £265.
