A nice show for Bank Holiday Monday met with a reduced trade as expected but an average of 172p would end up a decent result on the day. Buyers giving good premiums for the 41kg to 44kg well finished types with these in relatively good demand.
Top prices went to Anthony & Heather Hewetson of Newton Hall, Gargrave whose pen of 47kg Beltex crosses made £106 per head or 225.5p/kg when selling to Nick Dalby.

Craven Dairy Auction (51 head)
The late August show and sale of Dairy Cattle welcomed the Yorkshire Holstein Club to the ring with a fine show of Pedigree and Commercial dairy cattle right the way down the Shippon. The Pedigree Championship Judged by Edward Fort was given to the Dalesbrad herd of Alan and Susan Throup of Higher House, Silsden Moor. Dalesbrad Destry Peony a superb heifer by the bull Scientific Destry was calved 28 days and giving 30kgs went on to sell for the day’s top price of £1950. The second prized heifer behind the Champion in class was a lovely 2yr old heifer from David and Dee Holmes of Castley with Holmedale Hercules Poppy 2, by the Butterfield Ingleview Hercules and boasting a lot of milk in its back pedigree this went on to sell for £1780 to Wick Williams of Nantwich. Brian Moorhouse of the Aireburn Herd took the next top price with his Aireburn Charlie Rilla heifer, the heifer whose dam a EX92 cow who has done 100 ton at Hesper Farm sold for £1700 to Brian Blezard of Ribchester.
The bull section saw David Lawson’s Newbirks Jazzman hard bid for. A tremendous bull for 15 mths of age and half brother to the Yorkshire Show Champion and European 2nd Prize Newbirks Jazz 1584, sired by Bassingthorpe Bossman and stellar back pedigree went on to sell for £2700 to Angus Dean of AL Dean & Son, Toft House, Threshfield.
A good line up of Maidens was headed by a lovely bulling heifer from the up and coming Startover Herd of Brimham Lodge Farm. Startover Glauco Jasmine 2 Sired by the Toc- Farm Duplex Glauco took 1st prize in class and went on to sell for £850 to Aubrey Greenhalgh of Enchanted Holsteins. Alan Throup of the Dalesbrad herd wasn’t far behind with his 16mth old heifer Dalesbrad Ponder Gwennie, Sired by Coldsprinjgs Ponder sold for £840 to Simon Spensley of High gate, Gargrave.
