A nice show of rams displaying plenty of power and bone were forward at Skipton on Tuesday for The Dalesbred Sheep Breeders Annual Sale. Achieving the top price of 300gns was a Shearling Ram from Richard Close and Family from Calf Hall Farm in Starbotton, Wharfedale. Sired by their Kelsall ram out of a Dawson got ewe, it attracted much interest and spirited bidding from the ringside before being knocked down and it finding a new home at Whitmoor Farm with Messrs V Verity and Son.
The champion sheep on the day also came from Messrs Close, again a shearling ram, it was by a homebred ram which went back to the same Kelsall ram and this time from a Bradley got ewe. This ram previously had success on the summer show circuit and was sold to the show judge Rachel Brown of Accraplatts for 150gns. 2 other rams achieved 200gns, the first from John and Jean Bradley, Giggleswick this shearling by a Frank Brennand out of a John Harrison ewe sold to Messrs Leeming from Connonley. The other 200gn performer was the 2nd prize shearling from JM Wilson & Sons, Beckwithshaw, by a homebred ram out of a Bradley got ewe it found a new home with Alan Fothergill of Silsden Moor.
Females received strong interest, draft ewes selling to £108 from Messrs Coates of Rainscar.
