A fairly mixed show for quality attracted a decent company of buyers with several attending the sale for the first time. Better end of lambs on the day were easily traded, as was anything with plenty of size too, but smaller lambs, especially the lighter headed types or poor skinned ones were less money than some would have anticipated, showing that buyers are willing to pay for the better types. Generally the lambs at this sale were marginally smaller on the year and consequently show a small fall in average on the year.
Robert Crisp of Calton had the Champion pen of lambs and they sold for £145 each, closely followed by his third prize pen at £132. Quite a few better lots on the day making it in to three figures.

In the Swaledale Ring, John Tennant of Low Bucker House, Bordley assisted by daughter Rosie won the Craven Cattle Marts Ltd Trophy for the Champion pen of 10 Swaledale Gimmer Lambs.  The prize winners featured daughters of rams bred by Raymond & Alison Calvert at Hoggarths, Messrs Patrick &Kirsty Sowerby of Stainmore and Messrs S&P Brogden of Helbeck and head up the leading prizes when selling to Messrs AL Dean &Son who farm at Threshfield for £155.

An increased entry of lambs met a good trade with the average up £1.85 on the year at £79.16 and the leading runs receiving considerable interest from buyers buoyed by the season’s strong demand for Mule ewe lambs and Swaledale draft ewes.
