A busy day in the Lingfields Ring at Skipton with over 4,000 Gimmer Lambs through the ring for our third sale.
Masham Gimmer Lambs started todays sale, and sold well with best strong lambs £100 plus, topping £130 for the Champion pen from A&SL Throup, Bradley, with others from the same home at £115 and £102. Messrs Ashby Norwood made £115 and £105, a price equalled by Messrs Newbould. An overall selling average of £92.18 represented a good result.
A total of 3200 Mules were sold, inc Dales Mules, and they levelled at a collective average of £90.77 per head, very much in line with expectations following the levels seen at our opening two sales. The Dales Mules headed the prices at £130 for the second prize pen from RH&EA Close of Starbotton, followed by JK Wilson at £125 for the first prize pen. North of England Mules headed up at £126 by D White Horton in Ribblesdale, £125 on three occasions from FA Caton, CD&RF Kitching and JK Wilson, then £120 for JC Wade of Catchall with the first prize pen. Best end of lambs on the day £100 plus, smartest runners in the £90’s, commercial runners in the £80’s, and just a handful of pens in the £70’s. The next sale for Gimmer Lambs is on Tuesday 20th October, and entries for that sale close on Monday 12th October.

In the afternoon we held our Annual Sale of Swaledale Gimmer Lambs and as anticipated trade was up on the year to the tune of £17.09 av.£82.99 (2019 av £65.90), but top pens were much on a par with 2019 when they also sold well. Kevin Huck of Bordley repeated his 2019 victory with another well deserved championship with a pen of 10 lambs which sold to the days judge Geoff Bright for £145. Mr Bright also secured the second prize pen provided by John Mason of Embsay for £140 a price matched by John Tennant (Bordley) with his third prize winning pen which sold to Angus Dean of Threshfield. The sale saw the usual high quality runs particularly sought with the middle and later pens seeing the highest increases.
