Skipton Hampshire Down females peak at 750gns Hampshire Down ewes sold to a top of 750gns at the breed association’s north east sale in Skipton on Friday 30 September. Sale leader at 750gns was a Wilstrop bred shearling ewe by Whitehead Dylan from Graham and Judith Galbraith, Kendal, Cumbria, to R Melling, Scarisbrick, Lancashire. The Galbraiths offered a homebred shearling ewe by Graylen d’Artagnan at 550gns to Dutch breeder, Peter Beers, whilst they also sold a Clogherny Hogan sired ewe lamb at 420gns to AW Jones, Wymondham, Norfolk.




Other leading shearling ewes included an entry at 480gns by Maes-Glas Theodore from EB and SA Jones, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, to P Strickland, Lancaster, Lancashire. The same purchaser also secured the top priced ewe lamb at 480gns from L Chasney, York, North Yorkshire. She was by Whitehead Gladiator and within the breed’s top 1%.

Two more shearling ewe entries from EB and SA Jones attracted a 400gns bid. First to go was by Maes-Glas Warrior and sold to P Strickland whilst the second 400gns bid was made by R Melling for a Maes-Glas Musketeer sired entry.
