A big show of lambs were forward for sale today and a straight average price achieved on the day. Smart goods were very good to sell, very best end over £2kilo, plenty of nice sorts 170’s to 180’s. A tidy handy weighted sort of lamb was around 150p to 160p and a more commercial type under 150p. The heavier types saw nice types over 150p and commercial types 140p.
Ewes were a better trade than the average would suggest with a large proportion of fresh weaned ewes in the entry.

A cracking show of black and white calves today with 42 on offer averaging £114.62 with Michael Heron of Bramhope topping at £280 for a superb Friesian Bull with Alan Middleton of Hartley’s, Bolton Abbey hitting £270 for a half bred Friesian. 42 Black and White calves averaged 32 days of age.
Continentals would be a touch easier with some of the better calves on hold until next week’s calf show but for the goods present trade was buoyant and a solid run from Wellocks of Kirkby Malham met a strong trade for their age topping at £445.
RE: CALF SHOW NEXT WEEK with Classes for All types and Breeds with a strong buyer attendance expected as always.

A smaller show than usual and with further cuts to the milk price trade was certainly lighter with only the best of cattle making good prices. Pre-sale show judged by James Kayley, Halton West found Robin Jennings’ newly calved heifer to be the best on show and turned into the top price at £1720 selling to Gratton’s at Brimham Lodge. Keith Downs made the second top price with his 2nd Calver reaching £1700 with Richard Walker, East Morton reaching £1600 with a nice Shorthorn X Heifer.
