5,154 Prime Sheep

The largest show of prime lambs this season attracted a full complement of buyers and trade was again up on last week’s great average. The averages speak for themselves, have a good look through the breed averages, see that 2,839 Texels averaged 43.8kg £76.96 per head and 175.55p/kg. Probably most striking is that 710 Mule Wether lambs averaged 42.9kg £72.53 or 168.74p/kg, that’s an average of nearly £30 over the weight. Horned lambs were also a decent trade being a shade dearer as well on last week. Beltex crosses also sold wonderfully well as usual at Skipton with Hannah Brown of Bedale taking the top prices of £120 per head or 313.5p/kg.

Cast sheep attracted 9 buyers to the ringside and were dearer on the week. Don’t get ewes overfat, buyers want lean meat please.
