3596 Prime Sheep comprising 3193 Prime Hoggs & 400 Cast Ewes & Rams,
Numbers back up this week with 3193 lambs sold to an overall selling average of 196.6pkg (SQQ 202.7pkg) or £86.52 per head, note, this is an all breeds and all weights average for 2339 lowland lambs and 847 hill bred lambs and includes both farm assured and none assured lambs .
Some great runs of fed sheep forward today from both Western and Eastern Counties complementing the good weekly consignments from local feeders. The smart sorts and handyweight lambs were still good to sell, very best end 260p plus, plenty of nice beltex 235p-255p, whilst a commercial handyweight was 210p to 225p. Kevin Marshall topped the sale at 302pkg with a great pen of 38kg Beltex at £115, Taylor Bros made 272p, Tony Kiernan 268p, Kevin Marshall two other pens at 259p and 253p, J Burrow 259p, Walter Parkinson 257p and 250p.
In the lump Tony Kiernan topped the sale at £126.
Lowland Heavy lambs 52kg to 56kg plus did not live up to last weeks good trade, the best end still £102-£108 a few pens in the one-teens, but commercial sorts more in the mid £90’s today. 46kg to 50kg Commercial types were also a shade cheaper on the week by around 5pkg.
As much as Skipton gets good runs of fed lowland lambs, it should be noted that todays entry of 3186 lambs included 847 hill bred comprising 506 Mule & Masham Wethers and 341 Horned lambs. Mules again saw best end of 47kg in the mid £80’s whilst 39kg-42kg Mules well fleshed were again selling around 185p to 190p, a sample of the best handyweight prices saw 42kg at £80 from Bob Stubbs and 39kg at £75 from SR Dorey. Horned lambs saw wethers sell well, best 34kg at £59.50 from Richard Brown, other well fleshed lightweights mid to late £50’s, although tups would be harder to cash this week.
Cast sheep saw 400 forward today, with trade quoted as being better on the week, tops at £111.50 from N Morphet, Stainburn, and strong ewes in good demand.

Straight trade throughout the sale today with a healthy ringside of buyers present. Best Continentals were in handy numbers with Shaun Sowray and Mike Longster having the pick of the trades both at £400, with plenty of others £350 - £400. A steady trade for the continental heifers on show with a sweet white heifer again from Sowray’s topping at £310.
Native bulls were nice to sell with a lovely run of 5-6 week Angus calves from Broadley farms selling between £230 and £265. Slim pickings of Black and white bulls however a strong bull from Ralph Guy still made a respectable £95.
