Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)
Keelham Farm Shop of Skipton was prominent at the quality end of todays sale accounting for both leading priced steer and heifer. The heifer was the top price on the day at £1389 when the 595kg Limousin was sold by RT&J Critchley&Sons of Hutton for £1389 or 233.5p/kg. Mesrs F&B Smith of Masongill sold the leading priced steer at £1378, a Limousin weighing 580kg to Keelham at the top price p/kg for a steer of 237.5p/kg.
George Cropper of Sandersons Butchers in Baxenden popped across the border to account for two leading priced heifers from the Threshfield farming partnership of CD&RF Kitching. Both were Limousins weighing 540kg and 560kg making 247.5p/kg (£1337) and 245.5p/kg (£1375).
Trade for clean cattle was a little quieter with sales spread evenly round the ring even for the best.

Cull Cow Prices
With less cattle with finish available trade was similar to last week with odd heavy dairies 115p+, and the surplus of lean cows a very good trade at 90p/kg+ and those plain cows with an extra rub of meat 110p/kg. Still plenty of feeding cow orders around the ring.

Second week of May and a great result with still getting top side of 2000 sheep forward for sale and as the new season gets into gear, there was a great show of 442 spring lambs penned today and a sharp trade was witnessed as well, the nice fleshed 38kg to 42kg lambs being especially good to sell and even given the larger numbers on offer early season, we could have sold many more of this type with the SQQ (upto 45kg) standing at 280p and an overall average of 278p. Top of the shop was Neil Tattersall from York with 39kg at 353.8p £138 per head to George Cropper of Sanderson’s Butchers in Baxenden. EP&JM Hutchinson of Faceby sold lambs to £137 purchased by Hartshead Meat Co in Mossley, whilst a nice run of Suffolks lambs from Mark Evans included 4 pens from £133 to £137. Top price per kilo was A Brown of Gargrave at 355p 36kg at £128 to Hartshead Meats.
Hoggs were in good numbers as well with 1265 head forward for sale, including 104 Mature Hoggs with all classes much sharper on the week. WJ Livesey, Preston had a great run of heavy hoggs topping at £130 per head twice, one pen to Kendalls Farm Butchers, the other to Joe Bosworth. Jimmy Baines from Gisburn made £120 of Texels to R Agar Wholesale Butchers in Ilkley. Other better butchers lambs £110 to £115. Top per kilo at 255p from J Baines and 252.2p from JA Drake.
Handyweight Hoggs were good to sell, lowland types 220p to 240p, horned and hill bred 200p to 215p. Overall average for hoggs of 211.4p.

Lean ewes a good trade with Swales regular £52-£68 for lean with Heavier Swales £70-£78.50.
Mules Ewes came to an overall average of £83 with heavies £90+ and slightly smaller ewes £80+ with lean ewes in the 70’s.
Goat trade up a gear this week with top Price of £82.50 and an overall average of £79 for the 16 on offer!

Rearing Calves to £400 (49)
Calves yet again proving to hold the trade of recent weeks with a show of mainly younger calves they all sold tremendous!
Blue Bulls topped from regular vendor C Watson at £400 with 13 on sale today coming to an overall average of £305 Blue Heifers sold very well with a lot of dairy sorts on offer with a total average of £220.
Lim Bulls topped at £400 from MD Parkinson.
Black and White calves was very short of requirements today with a sale average of £84 with no weaned sorts in the sale!
