Prime Lambs
A lighter show of 3,710 sheep today, and trade a shade easier, but still plenty of demand from the ethnic orders looking to stock up for the festival, for which most of the processing takes place today and tonight.
Big Lambs in strong demand again, Duncan Halliday led the way with a pen of 46kg Texel/Beltex selling for £113 each to Keelham Farm Shop. Frankland Farms from Rathmell were next in line with 45kg making 3107 to Thomas Shepherdson. George Sunderland of Hebden Brodge made £105 of 52kg Texels purchased by J&E Medcalf, Whilst RH&MR Ireland made £105 of 49kg to Vivers Scotlamb, £104 of 51kg to Kendall Farm Butchers and £104 of 47kg to Keelham Farm Shop. Anthony Hewetson of Bank Newton made £103 on three separate occasions, all three pens weighed 43kg.
p/kg Duncan Halliday topped the sale at 245.7p to Keelham Farm Shop, George Sunderland 242.3p to Hartshead Meat co, Anthony Hewetson 240p on three occasions all to Keelham Farmshop, and Richard & Sadie Crabtree 239p to Vivers Scotlamb.
Generally the smart lambs were 210p plus, good quality ¾ bred lambs either side of £2, the better end of first cross types 190p and commercial types 175p to 185p.

Healthy number of calves forward again this week with a healthy trade to match. The top price calf of the day came from the Townsend Family of Southfield, Burnley with a sweet British Blue Bull to £420. Johnny and Simon Moon from Wigglesworth had a good run of 6 week old calves topping at £410 and Fred and Mark Houseman saw there 6 Blue Bulls average £408.
Natives again a were hard fought over with Bulls and Heifers averaging over £250 with heifers at £258.6 and Bulls £253 with Mr Houseman topping both at £305 and £310 respectively but plenty of others in the late £200’s.
Black and Whites reached £152 for a pure Friesian bull from Stephen Marshall of West End and John Marshall of Dacre not far behind at £150. Right through black and whites averaged £65.23 with plenty in the late £80’s and £90’s.

Craven Dairy Auction (55 head)
A smaller show of milkers but a big show of followers today with the Final part of dispersal from David Leeming at Burnt Yates who brought 27 Incalf Heifers and 7 Maidens. In the Pre Sale show Frank Wrathall judged the two Heifers from Robert Crisp of Calton in Malhamdale to be Champion and Reserve with Brian Moorhouse of Bell Busk in 3rd with his heifer.
The 27 litre, 11 day calved heifer from Robert Crisp went on to sell for the Sale high price of £1700 to Alf and Andrew Townsend of Southfield. The second highest price of the day was yet another handy cow from David Fort of Glusburn which sold for £1460 to Wick Williams, Cheshire.
In the Incalf and Maiden class the 1st Prize incalf Heifer from Olivers of Darley sold for £1160 to David Shuttleworth of Gargrave.
David Leeming of Burnt Yates topped heifers at £1120 for his mid to long dated Incalf heifers with plenty around the £1000 mark.
In the Maidens some yearlings to Bulling from David Leeming sold to £690 with some younger maidens topping at £500 three times.
