Prime Cattle (under 30 mos)
The Kitching brothers Charles and Richard from Threshfield enjoyed a very good day at the weekly renewal achieving top gross prices and overall top price p/kg with different animals. Their leading gross at £1431 was a 595kg Limousin cross steer which made 240.5p/kg when selling to Barkers Yorkshire Butchers of Skipton. The second top price from Mesrs Kitching also a steer this time 585kg sold to Keelham Farm Shop of Skipton for £1413 or 241.5p/kg. The top selling price per kg at 253.5p/kg went to George Cropper of Sandersons Butchers Baxenden, yet another Kitching entry this time a 545kg Limousin heifer which grossed up to £1382. A good range of cattle in the entry including a pen of (non assured) outside native bred steers which topped at 181.5p/kg or £1053. Amongst the smart retail cattle honours were shared between the retail shops of Sandersons Butchers, Keelham Farm Shop, Skipton and Ellisons Butchers, Cullingworth each with 3 purchases and the leading combined purchaser James Robertshaw also buying for his own Robertshaws Farm Shop of Thornton.

Cull Cow Prices
A very light show of cast cows with farms chasing second crop in catchy weather. No let up in the price with a 980kg Holstein cow from Brian Moorhouse at £1161 the pick of the grosses and a purebred beef shorthorn from JM Daggett not far behind at £1158 or 155.5p/kg, which was the top price.

Another cracking show of sheep this week with 3,519 head presented for sale comprising 2,594 Spring Lambs and a whopping 925 Cast Ewes, Rams and Hoggs.
Lambs settled at a strong overall average of 233.3p (+5p on the week), with most classes showing a rise on the week. Heavy lambs were a great trade all day, top price of £141 per head was paid to JA Gibson & Sons, Church Fenton, York for Continentals purchased by Brayton Farmshop, Selby who also bought lambs at £138 from A&SJ Sugden of Laycock, £136 from AF Harker, Long Preston, £135 from RH&J Wood, Northallerton and £130 again from JA Gibson & Sons.
Keelham Farmshop in Skipton secured lambs at £135 from A&SJ Sugden, £129 from M Ryder & Son, Haverah Park, and £12 from ML Evans, Steeton, whilst Robertshaws Farmshop at Thornton, Bradford purchased lambs at £135 from Aimee Beresford, Hellifield.
Kendalls Farm Butchers in Harrogate and Pateley Bridge were on the quality account as usual with purchases at £128 from RH&J Wood, Northallerton, £127 from JC&PS Turner, Skipton and £126 from P Crabtree & Son, Otley. 25 pens of lambs made in excess of £120 per head today, whilst a further 64 lots made from £110 to £120.
The smart goods topped at 305p/kg for Continentals from Tom Hill & Ruby Wright, Doncaster purchased by Hartshead Meat Co in Mossley, Manchester, who also purchased at 297p form Ellis Bros, Addingham Moorside and 288p from DJ Grassham, Stockeld Park. A Jenkinson from Langbar made 297p selling to Vivers Scotlamb. 94 pens of lambs today made 250p or above showing the high demand and premium prices available for this type of lamb at Skipton. Beltex Lambs averaged 252p/kg.
Commercial lowland lambs were good to sell again today, 215p to 230p depending on weight and breed, whilst the best end of first crosses and straight ¾ bred lambs 230p to 250p.
Mule Wethers again prominent and selling well, averaging 205p/kg to a top of 219.5p from AJ Mason, Skipton, whilst Masham wethers made their first appearance this season, J Verity & Son, Middlesmoor selling three pens to a top of 225.6p averaging 222p.
925 Cast & Feeding Sheep in the sale today with a strong demand met to top at £123.50 from JA Gibson & Son, Church Fenton and ewes levelling at £73.91 across the board, with rams to £119.50 and averaging £91.72.
Mule Ewes were a good breed average of £70.94 with a top price paid of £92.50 to DA Pratt, Silsden. Big heavy mules would eb around £7-£8 dearer on the week. Lean and plain sorts also took a nice lift in trade.
Heavy Cont ewes very similar on the week. Some over thick ewes would look a shade less but the lean meat selling better than the week before. Top price Texels £123.50. Beltex ewes avg a straight £100. All classes good to sell once again.
Hill sheep becoming more prominent with 123 Swales sold to a top of £80.50. Good meat Horned ewes £60+ with lean ewes £45-£55 and Plain ewes similar with prices of £25-£38 depending on frame.

Rearing Calves to £420
Calves a flyer today but a very poor entry with demand up on the week. Blue heifers and Blue bulls met a strong trade from regular buyers, Black and Whites sold sell away with the majority of them £70-£120. Black and Whites went onto avg £83. Blue Bulls avg £369 with a top of £420 and twice over. Blue Heifers avg £372 with a top of £395.
