3,641 Prime Sheep
A much larger show of lambs with just shy of 3,000 sold at a very similar average of 197p, however the quality of the entry was not just as good with no show sheep this week so trade is seen to be slightly dearer on the week. Heavy lambs continue to sell very well with TH Mellin selling 55kg Suffolks at £113, Thomas Binns 54kg Texels at £117, Simon Bennet 54kg Texels at £112, Ian Marsden 54kg Texels £107, TH Mellin 50kg Suffolks at £107 and John Turner 49kg Texels at £110 and £108.
Smart lambs were a sharp trade again without seeing the out and out quality of last week, the better end around 230p to 250p with Rob Marshall of Dacre topping at 252.3p selling to Keelham Farmshop. Other top prices per head saw Tony Kiernan sell to £116, Simon Bennett £112, Rob Marshall £111, W Watson £110, Ian Marsden £109, Ellis Bros £108.
Mule Wethers again sold well, especially anything well fleshed, 3 pens over £90 with Richard Stockdale of Oat Croft topping at £94, Simon Barker of Airton £93 and Trevor Stoney with Dales Mules to £91. Mark Ewbank sold Swaledales to £74 and Ellis Bros to £65.
A large show of cast sheep were a solid trade, with a large proportion of sucked and fresh weaned ewes in the entry levelling at a similar trade to last week.
