Cull Cow Prices

Processor trade quiet in run up to Christmas, news which vendors are well aware of and todays show represented very lean dairies which were better to sell than anticipated. Odd Beef cross cows were picked up by feeders making the most of the absence of factory demand.

Black and Whites held back by some plain calves right the way through the sale with plenty handy goods above £100’s. Continentals were still good to sell with three full trailers of calves receiving a fair trade for their consignments.

Craven Dairy Auction (71 head)

A testing day in the dairy ring today, with 71 in total up for grabs at this month’s For Farmers dairy sale. With the projected future of the EU dairy industry predicted to be fairly bleak for the near future according to a recent EU report and the slide in the cull cow ring made for little enthusiasm ringside this cold afternoon. However a strong shippon full of cattle was presented in front of buyers with Wick Williams tasked with picking his favourite. Robin Jennings had a sweet heifer giving 34 Litres which went onto to be chosen as the days champion and sold for £1620 to the Judge. In second place was Peter Baul of Bishop Thornton with a fine heifer which went on to make the top price of the day at £1750 to Local buyer John Howard.

Chris Broadwith and Olivers and Partners were the vendors of the strong entry of Incalf heifers with 11 averaging £1007. Sam Middleton of Wawne near Hull brought 14 bulling heifers topping at £920 for a Rhaposdy heifer and bought by Aubrey Greenhalgh. Joss Lancaster had another pen of calves with 7 averaging £268.
